Profession: Pediatric surgeon

Backstory:The thunderous crashing of the sea and swirling, tempestuous storms heralded her birth for days before she finally came into this world...

It was her favorite story in the world and her father told it the same way every time. According to him, her cries parted the clouds and calmed the waves like some sort of miracle and she continued to brighten and soothe the world for him ever since. At least that was what he said to her nearly every day right up until he died and left her alone in the world at 15. Her mother had left shortly after she had been born and her father had never told her why, not that she asked about it often because she had been happy as a child.

For all of her childhood that she could remember it had always been the two of them in their little happy bubble against the world, father and daughter that could take on anything. He had been strong, smart and capable of keeping the nefarious double life he led from seeping into their sacred space until it finally took him down. His ties to the IRA caught up with him in their sleepy little coastal town in the north of England one spring day while she was at school and she came home to a charred pile of rubble that had been their cottage with her father burned alive inside. To some people, such an event would have been shattering and for a while the pain of that loss hung over her but somewhere inside of her heart and her head she held onto the memories of him.

Gugu was sent off to her aunt and uncle in London where she finished her schooling and decided to pursue a career in medicine. With the way her father had been taken out she internalized that pain and his dreams for her, molding them together to forge her future as she figured he would have wanted. He always seemed to believe she was a force for good and she wanted to make that her life's purpose, her way of honoring the man she loved so much.

School was hard and after many years of studying and internships, she finally made it out and started work as a pediatric surgeon at St. Bart's in London. While the life was lucrative and she had a lot of success, she started to get bored of the English city lifestyle and she longed for a change. On a whim she applied for several positions around the world, just to see if anyone would take her, and before she knew it she was jet-setting across continents and oceans to settle in a new land, a new city to try and make a home.
