BACKGROUND
kalin white entered this world unexpectedly, almost a month early when his parents were vacationing in hawaii. he’ll joke that’s where he got his calm nature from. luckily, he didn’t have any health problems, his mother thinking he was impatient just like his father. the family was living in seoul while kalin was growing up. he loved seoul. he started skateboarding and surfing at an early age, becoming good enough to impress his friends. he was also very into computers, fascinated by how everything worked.
when he was fourteen, kalin's mother got transferred to texas. his mother's family was from houston and the whole family packed up and moved. kalin was devastated. he hated texas, wanting nothing more than to leave. nobody seemed to get him there. they all thought he was weird and making fun of the fact that he didn’t have an accent. it made him isolated, instead turning to his computer. it was his last link to seoul.
while in high school, he took a coding class. we wanted to be able to find the codes of websites so he could try and get free game credit at first, hearing that it was possible from a few of his buddies back in seoul. he found he was really good at it, able to get through the coursework a long time before his classmates. he started building websites, games, anything he could do to pass the few hours between his school letting out and his friends from south korea being home. his teacher took notice, encouraging him to enter in several contests. he won most of what he entered, even winning a hackathon that several college students were in. he graduated a year early in his class and several people still wonder if he hacked into the system to make it possible.
he was given a full ride scholarship to seoul Institute of technology, one of the top computer science programs in the country. he was glad to be able to go back home and while he was there, his teacher challenged them in groups to make a “time wasting app.” while kalin was trying to shoot paper balls into the trashcan with all his bad ideas, he got it. why not make that into a game? from there, a new game was born. with the help of his teacher and the few links he had they tried to put the game into works.
