Summons are animals and creatures that serve as companions and allies in battle and are summoned through the summoning technique, a transaction process that requires an allotted amount of the user’s chakra. The amount of chakra used during the summoning determines the strength and power of the summoned creature, while the species of creature is determined by previously signing a contract with a specific animal species in blood. After the initial signature, summoning only requires a small amount of the caster’s blood and a voluntary chakra donation, to which the creature will be transported to the caster’s location. If a shinobi hasn’t signed a contract but uses the summoning technique, he/she will be transported to the origin of the animal species he/she has an affinity for, which are the circumstances under which summon selection shall be administered in this roleplay.

For the purposes of simplifying the amount of summons available to each user, regardless of the animal species, there are 6 designated categories for the power of the summon, varying from:

Level 0: The most basic of summons, often summoned by genin and chuunin students who recently learned the technique and are attempting to control their chakra to exert a regulated amount to summon larger summons. Level 0 summons are relatively useless, unable to speak or move independently or effectively, with no unique or beneficial characteristics. [ minimal amount of chakra needed for donation / Genin – Kage ]

Level 1: Slightly more advanced than Level 0 summons, Level 1 summons are capable of speaking and moving independently but are often too small ( i.e. 1/8th the size of a human being ) and physically weak to provide any assistance to the summoner outside of basic communication purposes. They are often summoned accidentally when misjudging the amount of exerted chakra, though shinobi occasionally summon them for the purposes of guidance or communication despite possessing no unique or beneficial characteristics otherwise. [ small amount of chakra needed for donation / Genin – Kage ]

Level 2: Level 2 summons vary in size, power and intellect, but can provide minimal assistance in battle through either strategy or strength. Capable of performing tasks for the caster and beneficial through input, despite not possessing any unique characteristics. Unable to perform jutsu or battle for prolonged periods of time, Level 2 summons are most helpful observing or advising the caster rather than employed as a fighter, unless as a distraction. Some may possess a small weapon such as a tantō or shuriken for defense. [ small-medium amount of chakra needed for donation / Chuunin – Kage ]

Level 3: More battle-oriented than Level 2 summons, Level 3 summons are more knowledgeable about battle and more durable physically than previous Level summons, able to stand as an independent unit. About the height of the caster, with minor variations, these summons act upon their own initiative rather than rely on the commands of the caster. However, the downside to the enhanced physical strength and acute battle experience is their pride and tendency to disagree and disobey the caster. If the caster is able to earn their respect, the summon will be more prone to taking their advice into consideration and will go to further lengths to protect, defend and cooperate with the caster. Otherwise, the summon may remain indifferent and not participate in a battle, often considering menial tasks below their advanced skill level. Are able to wield one larger, basic melee weapon similar to those capable of being wielded by humans, with limitations being their anatomy and practical usages, but incapable of using jutsu. [ medium amount of chakra needed for donation / Chuunin – Kage ]

Level 4: Level 4 summons vary in size and physical specialty, possessing the ability to use one basic elemental jutsu type, yet incapable of combining it with the caster’s jutsu to enhance the effectiveness of a technique. Similar to Level 3 summons, they are also physically durable and experienced in battle, able to wield one, common melee weapon in accordance to their size, with the previous limitations still applying. Large enough for the user to comfortably stand upon ( ~ 15 – 25 times the size of a human being ) and use for transportation, they have a significantly longer endurance and stamina than lower-leveled summons, proving them to be a useful battle asset and ally. They are large enough to utilize species-exclusive unique characteristics, such as the extendibility and protection of a toad’s tongue or the ability of the slug to separate into many smaller entities. However, their attitude is considerably more ignorant, considering themselves to be the superior being and offended when shinobi believe they can control them or dictate their actions. In order to be able to maximize the immense potential of Level 4 summons, a shinobi must first garner the respect and befriend the summon, to which the summon will more readily listen and participate alongside the caster. Level 4 summons are considered the most accessible and powerful summons outside of the almost unattainable Level 5 summons, with the potential to become a valuable, irreplaceable ally to a shinobi. [ large amount of chakra needed for donation / Jonin – Kage ]

Level 5: The largest and most powerful of summons for each species, summoned and commanded by only the strongest, most powerful and capable shinobi of their generation. Incredibly difficult to earn the respect of, meaning that even those who are capable of summoning Level 5 summons may not be able to command them. However, Level 5 summons are immensely powerful: gigantic in size ( 100 times the size of a human and dwarfing the caster when standing atop it ), adept in battle, extraordinarily strong, keen in intellect and strategy and are capable of using one, large melee weapon and jutsu in coordination with the user. Characterized by their prideful, arrogant and often offensive demeanor, they are intolerable unless a sense of mutual respect is formed, to which the caster and the summon are capable of extraordinary feats. Can coordinate techniques to enhance the strength of jutsu, as well as independently use strong elemental attacks, and access the jutsu of the user to allow for tandem transformation techniques. There is 1 Level 5 summon per each species, each with unique, species-exclusive abilities. [ huge amount of chakra needed for donation, enough to drain even a skilled shinobi / S-Rank/Sannin – Kage ]

These apply to the general size and strength of the summon and summons of the same level can presumably fight against each other without distinct advantage or easy victory. When employing summons in battle, keep in mind their limitations and how their size, species or anatomy affects their speed, strength and fighting style, as well as their personality and previous experience with your shinobi ( i.e., when you summon a Level 3 summon for the first time, they likely aren’t cooperative or respectful towards you ). In the case where 2 shinobis use their summons against one another, the higher Level summon should overpower the lower Level summon, and if the summons are of equal Level, then they should be worthy and equal opponents, thereby negating each others’ effectiveness. However, shinobis aren’t always able to summon the strongest summon they’re capable of, nor is it the most effective usage of chakra to summon the strongest in all situations. Summons are currently limited to one species per person, but you are allowed to summon multiple summons at any time, given appropriate chakra amount.

If the admins notice you continually abusing your summoning power by either constantly summoning your strongest or summoning beyond your rank or extent of your chakra, you first will receive a warning and, in the case of repeated offense, will then have the technique revoked. On other accounts, you have jurisdiction over the specific of your species, such as what weapon they wield or elemental type they use (within reason, such as a shark wouldn’t have a Fire Release affinity).
