— UNIVERSAL TRAITS
These are characteristics that almost every vampire shares.

FANGS: All vampires have fangs which they use to feed from their victims. While some vampires have permanent fangs, there are others with retractable fangs that only appear when emotional and/or feeding. A vampire does not blood through their fangs, the fangs merely pierce the skin and they drink like they would any other liquid. However, all fangs do inject venom through extremely small openings near the points of the teeth.

HEIGHTENED SENSES: All vampires have heightened senses of touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing.

ENHANCED FEATURES: All vampires have enhanced strength and speed, as well as the ability to see in complete darkness. Vampires also do not need nearly as much sleep as humans and other creatures, able to go weeks at a time without resting.

— SPECIAL ABILITIES
These are characteristics that are common among vampires, but not every vampire has them. Each vampire has two (2) special abilities from the following:

• Levitation
• Persuasion
• Future Sight
• Illusion Magic
• Animal Communication
• Dream Walking
• Memory Manipulation
• Emotion Sensing
• Telepathy
• Healing

*If you are unsure on how an ability works please ask an admin for clarification.
*You may include this information in your application if you wish, but it only needs to be present on your profile.

— WEAKNESSES
These are weaknesses that are universal to all vampires.

SILVER: Silver weapons and objects will burn the skin of any vampire they come into contact with. A silver weapon to the heart or the brain is always fatal.

HAWTHORN: Due to the magical properties of the hawthorn tree it poses a fatal threat to any vampire if they are staked through the heart or the brain.

HOLLY: A plant with magical properties. Will only kill a vampire if it is ingested. If burned or used as an essence this plant can have different effects on a vampire, including drowsiness, pain, confusion and even death if exposed to large quantities.

BLACKTHORN: A plant with magical properties. Will only kill a vampire if it is ingested. If burned or used as an essence this plant can have different effects on a vampire, including drowsiness, pain, confusion and even death if exposed to large quantities.

*In this unverise vampires are NOT weak to the sun, holy objects, garlic, etc.

— VAMPIRE VENOM & TURNING
A vampire's venom has several special properties that make it useful for things beyond just turning humans into vampires.

Firstly, it acts as a minor sedative when feeding from someone or something in order to make them more receptive to the feeding. Some vampire's venom is more effective than others, leading their victims to experience symptoms such as drowsiness, confusion, temporarily heightened senses, memory issues and even arousal in certain cases.

Secondly, as mentioned above, vampire venom is the only way to turn a human into a vampire through a bite. This process involves the human being drained of almost all their blood, and in the final moments before death, being injected with the vampire's venom. This venom will kill them and jumpstart the process of them turning into a vampire. When a vampire attempts to turn a human the process is only successful about half the time. If the human does not survive the transformation then they simply die.

▣ Some expanded properties of vampire venom include: a clotting effect so that the victim does not continue to bleed too much after feeding (activated only when the vampire is actually finished feeding), as well as for use in certain dark magic rituals.

— OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
▣ Vampires can either be naturally born to vampire parents, or they can be created when a human is turned by a vampire. A natural born vampire will stop physically aging at any random time, and the average physical appearance among vampires as a whole is somewhere between the ages of 18-45. A turned vampire stops physically aging once they crossover from human to vampire, meaning that whenever they were bit is how they will look for the rest of their immortal life.

▣ As long as a vampire isn't fatally wounded they are essentially immortal. Some of the oldest reported vampires can live up to 3000 years.

▣ In this universe vampires do have blood in their bodies and a heart. However, compared to humans they have a lower internal body temperature, and their pulse is also much slower. This is why a vampire needs to feed on human blood, because they are unable to replenish/recycle their own blood supply, unlike humans.

▣ When a vampire doesn't feed they slowly lose their internal blood supply, but they do not die right away. In fact, some vampires can starve for several years as an empty husk before they eventually wither away and turn to dust. (Once upon a time it was a normal punishment among vampire criminals to starve them to death.)

▣ In this world there is a phenomenon known as the "sire-bond." This occurs between a vampire and the newly turned fledgeling they have created. The bond is not automatic, as the sire has to accept and activate the bond for it to be complete, but the potential exists as soon as the newly turned vampire crosses over from life to undeath. When a sire-bond is activated it gives the sire influence over the fledgeling vampire. They will have a certain amount of persuasion/hypnotization over the fledgeling, but not nearly strong enough to be mind control (unless enhanced by magic). The bond is a two-way street in which both vampires can feel each other's emotions, and a small portion of their souls are tethered to each other.

▣ Dark magic is an ancient vampire magic that was used thousands of years ago when the concept of soulmates and claiming marks was much more common. This is almost never practiced in the modern day, except by a few vampires who still have innate dark magic (which is very few, and only possible with vampires over at least 800-1500 years old). This magic is non-combative, and only applies to creating a claim over another creature. These days, those vampires with the power to claim do not do so for romantic purposes as it was done hundreds of years ago. Instead, the claim is now considered a mark of ownership or possession over another individual, typically used by vampires that force others into their clans, or to control creatures below them. The claiming does not result in mind control or anything of the sort, but it does create a bond between the marker and the claimed.
