Darkness envelops you and your traveling companions fully and suddenly, changing the world before your eyes from a bright and vibrant forest scene to a blanket of pitch black. A sound to your back left catches your ear as one of your friends curses under her breath. “Does anyone have anything for this nonsense?” she asks quietly, a tinge of panic lacing her voice as you can practically feel her shifting uncomfortably in the shadows. You are about to respond as you hear the distinct sound of your other compatriot to your right scream and then fall silent in the space of a few heartbeats. Another series of expletives escape from the female as her voice raises another octave and you know she is ready to abandon you there.
You, however, you are completely calm despite the chaos. A small but knowing smirk curls at the corners of your lips as you casually raise your hand up between the two of you. There inside of you, you grab ahold of that familiar and comforting spark that sits somewhere in the depths of your chest. It’s been almost like a companion since you were born and responds to your inner coaxing with eager ease; flowing through your torso, up your shoulder and down your arm until it erupts in your palm with a warm and gentle glow. Flames dance playfully among your fingertips as you shift the digits around in your own little ritual to draw even more of that power forth.
“Don’t worry, I’ve got this.”
