What Makes A Psychological Story 'Psychological'?

After writing fanfiction for so long I'd really like to try my hand at an original story for a change. But anyway my main question is...what makes a psychological story psychological? I'm getting ideas for something but I have no idea where to even start with this particular genre. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated!

It can quickly become boring story, like the one you study in litterature (well depends if you like that kind of story xD) but yeah ... so people usually write about crazy people. When you're in their head everything is normal and you feel like the world is wrong. See what I mean ?
After it can just be.. someone discovering something, a guy doing a coming out, a girl discovering adventure and else :3
