Alica in Wonderland

“Did you know? Games always have rules, It’s decided from the beginning….you knew that, right?”

“Alica!” Her mother called out. She looked up from her position, her pen slowly slipping between her slender fingers. What was it now?

“Y-Yes?” Her voice cracked slightly in the process of answering back. “What do you need?”

“Can you please go pick up your older brother from the airport please? He just called me not too long ago explaining how he’s stuck there since his friend had forgotten about him.” Her mother explained, making her eyes roll out of annoyance. Couldn’t she just do it herself? She wasn’t the only one that knew how to drive anyways. “Please? You’re the youngest in this house so you have the most energy. Besides, I’m about to start cooking.”

She had no other choice but to do so. Sitting up from her bed, she ran her hair through her black and blue dyed hair. Why did she have to do this at this time of night anyways? Anytime past 8 o’clock she starts to get lazy and doesn’t want to do anything but write her stories or draw. Was it too hard to ask for one break? At the age of 17 she was busy with homework from school and even her part time job at a video game store. All she wanted was a little bit of free time.

“Fine!” She yelled from her room so her mother could hear clearly. Alica then walked to the living room, passing the kitchen as a nice smell flowed through her nostrils. Another reason why she wanted to stay home. Food. Besides, she wouldn’t be able to have fresh food since it takes about 2 hours to get to the airport. “I’m leaving now.” She said as she slipped on her boots.

“Wait!”

Stopping abruptly, she slowly started to turn around as a loud sigh emitted from her.

“Yes...mother…” She said behind gritted teeth.

“Don’t forget to wear a jacket! It’s snowing outside so it’s deathly cold!”

“The perks of living in New York….” A voice of sarcasm sparked from her tone of voice as she slipped on the jacket that her mother had suggested her to wear.

Again, why did this have to be the middle of January? And it was still snowing? What was this? Sadly she had to pull through for her brother and mother. The bad thing was that she hated driving in the snow. She couldn’t see the road nor barely see any animals that could run past her car. Alica groaned, her hands gripping tightly on to the leather of the steering wheel. Her eyes onto the white covered road ahead of her. As she thought, she couldn’t see anything, and so far? There were no cars either. Perfect.

Reaching for her phone, she quickly dialed her brothers number so she could pay attention to the road again. God, it felt like her heart was about to jump out of her chest. She hated driving in the snow so much, especially if she couldn’t pay enough attention to the road.

“Hello?” She squeaked, a steel grip on her phone. She could hear someone sigh on the other line, her brother sounded worried.

“You’re...driving aren’t you?”

“Maybe….Okay yes, I am. But i’ll be a little late since you know how slow I drive in the snow.”

“Yeah, I‘ve taken notice of that a few times. Don’t get too nervous out there okay? And get here safely, I want to come home in one peace also.” Her brother said with a small chuckle at the end as an attempt to make her feel better.

“Thanks for trying to help but I don’t think that it’s going to work Han…”

“Well at least I attempted to do something, right? You have to give me credit for that.”

“I guess.” She laughed along with him, a bright smile now on her face.

“Yeah yeah yeah. Anyways, I’ll see you when you get here.”

“I’ll be fine!” Alica replied back, ending the call at that note. Placing the phone back inside of the cup holder, she gripped her hand back onto the steering wheel. How long was it until she reached the airport? Looking over towards her navigation system, her eyes had locked onto the dreaded ‘2 hours’ that were in big bold letters on the corner of the screen. Again, this was perfect.

Moving her eyes back towards the road, a small scream had escaped her as he stomped on the breaks. For a second, she was sure that her head was going to hit the steering wheel pretty hard, but she didn’t surprisingly. Yes, her head hurt but it wasn’t as bad she expected. Besides the fact, what was in the middle road?! As she rubbed her head, Alica leaned her head forward to see in front of her a bit closer. What...was that? A bunny? A rabbit? Blinking a few times to see if she wasn’t making any of this of her imagination, she quickly went back in her seat in shock. It was...gone. What?! But she could of sworn…

Stepping out of the car, Alica stuffed her hands inside of her pockets while closing the door with her left foot. The wind was blowing and her ears were starting to hurt, why was she out here again? Truthfully, she didn’t know herself but something had just told her to find out whatever in the middle of the road was. Yes, it was a stupid idea and this was usually how people had gotten killed in stupid horror movies, but she just couldn’t turn her decision away.

It wasn’t long before she had actually began to convince herself that she was lost. Great. Now she was going to freeze to death at the age of 17. What a short life it was, it was good while it lasted. Honestly, she wanted to turn back but how? She was lost and long gone from her car. Shoot, the car could of been stolen by now. Alica’s body had then started to shake, raising her shoulders up to cover her ears from the unbearable cold. At this rate she could really be in trouble. What was her mother and brother going to think what happened to her?

All of a sudden, her head had snapped to the side when she had seen something out of the corner of her eye. There it was, that rabbit..or bunny..whatever it was. “H-Hey! There you are!” Alica said with excitement in her tone. As she had taken a step forward, she had expected to be walking onto the snow, but she had soon realized that her body was beginning to fall back as if the ground below her was collapsing. Making a noise out of shock, her body had free falled down into a dark pit as her screams echoed through.

Her head. Her head was all that she could think about as she had started to regain consciousness. “My God…” She muttered under her breath. “What happened…” So far, every word that she had spoken made her head pound in pain. What did she just fall through anyways? Slowly beginning to stand up, Alica’s eyesight had then begun to clear up. So far, she could only make out how unbelievably colorful it was around her. “Wow why is it so…” Alica was then turned to silence as her eyes had finally cleared up. The scenery around her was absolutely amazing. It just looked like a little fantasy world and it was just beautiful. On the other hand, it had also seemed like there were buildings just like a city. What?

“Okay...I have to be dreaming because this place is just too beautiful to be real…”

“Actually that’s not true! This world is one hundred percent real!” A voice said behind her as she squeaked and turned around. Right before her eyes was a male with silver hair, looking around his early 20’s wearing a checkered waistcoat and slacks with a clock hanging on his side back. Wait a second...does he...does he have RABBIT EARS?! Rubbing her eyes, Alica hoped to think that she wasn’t seeing things. The place that she was in was enough for her to even process but this?! This was absolutely ridiculous!

“W-Why do you have ears of an animal?!” She said, nearly freaking out.

“Why not?” The male asked as a reply, his head tilting to the side.

“You have EARS! BUNNY! EARS!” Alica exlaimed as she pointed to his ears fractically.

“For your information they are rabbit ears. Not bunny ears. I am not a female as you can see.” Crossing his arms in front of his chest, you could tell that he was offended by the look in his eyes. His... beautiful amber eyes. “Just so we cleared that up! WELCOME TO WONDERLAND!” He exclaimed excitedly, his pearly whites flashing as it made Alica blush even the slightest.

“W-Wonder..land?” She was utterly confused. Wonderland? As in...Alice in Wonderland? Woah wait, she thought that was just a book. A story that was for only childrens imaginations! “No, no no no no. NO! You mean Wonderland?! As in Alice in Wonderland?! That’s just a book!” Alica wanted to explain to him that this wasn’t real and it was just a book, but clearly that wasn’t working.

“Oh sweetheart, it’s just as real as the world that you were just in. Just a bit different. Besides, you wanted to come here I see. You followed me just like Alice did in the “books”.” He said as he make little quotation marks with his fingers. “Which means, that you are our new Alice!” As he said this, he quickly wrapped his arms around her, squeezing her tightly in affection.

“I-I c-can’t b-brea-ath…” Alica said in a strained voice. He was squeezing her so tightly that she was sure that her ribs might of been cracked now.

“Oh! My apologies madam.” Tearing away from her, he gently brushed her off as if she was now a delicate little flower.

“Thanks.” She said as she was catching her breath, clearing a little.

“You’re welcome and…” Looking up, his eyes had locked on to the top of her head. “Cute little bow there. It suits you.”

“Bow?” She was utterly confused. What was he talking about? Reaching her right hand up, she slowly patted her head to see if there was a bow and...there was. “H-How did that get there?!” Quickly looking down, Alica had also looked down to find that she was wearing a black and blue checkered maid looking dress. She doesn’t wear dresses...or bows. What was this?  “H-Hey, can you get this off of me?” She begged.

“No can do madam! I am afraid that this is the only clothing that you will receive for the time being.”

“What?! Are you serious!” She huffed. “And can you please stop calling me madam! My name is Alica!”

“Alica? It’s almost like Alice! So! This is now “Alica in Wonderland”!” He ended his sentence with a whole hearted laugh. Things like this had always amused him, especially when his new victims are as pretty as Alica.
