pinpricks of water pelted shoulders that sagged from days worth of tiresome blunder. lips trembling and fear constantly pouring into the frail being's heart. but all was wiped away with the promises that fell from her mother's quivering lips, until it was too much. when they came and tore her and her sister from her poor mother's grip - no, she wanted to scream. let me stay, she wanted to plead, but nothing fell from lips that had long ago split and cracked. lips that were paler than the snow that lay on the window sill, colder than the ice that frosts the glass panes that had been boarded over so long ago. foster care wasn't ideal, but it wasn't too terrible for her. at least she knew her mother loved her, whereas kids went in and out like it was no one's business, their parents breaking their limbs and beating them unconscious. yeah, it definitely could've been worse. life liked to throw curveballs, especially to the ones that were shrugging off the crisp hand of depression. her sister was taken from her, not too long after her eleventh birthday, joohyun watching the light fade from her baby sister's eyes, eyes that resembled her mother's so beautfully. they were the only reminder she had - the only living one. all because some trigger happy 'volunteer' thought that her poor, small, withering sister was going to attack him and rip his throat out. joohyun would have. if she was stronger, at least. but that was when the spiral began, the hardened features, the catty smiles, the side eyed glances and the blood dripping from noses and split lips after her foot connected with them. 160 cm and ready to fight. sinewy muscles hidden under smooth, shining skin, taut abdomen that was regularly wrapped from the bruises that lay along her rib cage like they belonged. those were the only tattoos she wore - even though temporary, they always came back.
