Knocking on Death’s Door (open; harry potter au)

Back during their time at Hogwarts, Muse A and B were rivals. A came from a stuck up pureblood family that strongly believed in blood purity and B was a smart and talented muggleborn. Muse A targeted B for their bullying merely based off of their origins but they weren’t prepared for B to fight back so powerfully. It wouldn’t be a lie to say that there were no kind or warm feelings between them in the slightest.
In fact, their feud got so bad in their final year at Hogwarts that the headmaster had to ban them from even speaking to each other with threats of expulsion. After graduating they never saw each other, had no need to. They each went on to their careers and buried the sour memory of their school rival.
It isn’t until Muse A starts working as the new Potions professor that they see each other again. Muse B, an ex-auror who took up the position of DADA professor expects Muse A to be the same mean and cruel person they were during their time in school, but A has done a lot of growing up in those years since Hogwarts. Muse B isn’t convinced with Muse A’s seemingly respectful and nice mask, so they decide to press A’s buttons to get them to show their true colors again.
Muse A fights to stay civil with Muse B, but then B finally wears them down and Muse A snaps.
Thus begins the year that the DADA and potions professors got in more trouble with the headmaster than the students.
