At the tender age of nine, Yunho has been set to be the palace's gisaeng when his single father had sold him off for a fortune of gold and silver after a loud ruckus in his small empty room that catches the attentions of the palace guards. That horrific afternoon was nothing but beatings, heavy spewing of curses, pulling of his hair to be thrown across the room, and it was also the day that his father had almost killed him with his bare hands, clasped around his thin neck. When he was saved by the palace guards, Yunho was close to death and he had sworn that he had saw his dead mother's spirit in the corner of his room with anger in her eyes, directed to his father. Yunho didn't remember much afterwards as he had fainted but when he woke up almost a week later, Yunho was settled in a small rickety bed in a flourish looking room.

The young lad had not like his biological father ever since he was a little child as the abuse that rains onto his flesh every day and night has become worst as he grows older. Was he happy when he found out that he will be a gisaeng in the future? Not exactly but he didn't have much choice. He just wants to be set free from all the black and blues, and the smell of alcohol that whiffs from his father's mouth that spews curses at Yunho. At that time of age, Yunho does not exactly know what a gisaeng was. He had heard stories of these beautiful men and women serving the royals, having talents and knowledge that commoners were envy of, yet he did not know the truth behind it. When he found out that he will be sent to spend a night with a prince for ual services, it was the day that he had turned eighteen, and Yunho lost his chastity that night in the hands of a man that he never saw as he was forced to enter the room blindfolded. He still remembers his burning touches and moans, and even after thirteen years, Yunho still does not know the face of the man who took his breath away that night and neither is his name.

To add more misery to his childhood years, Yunho had developed asthma when he grows older and it had started when he was in his early years of teen. He couldn't run around the same way as other children were as he would have started wheezing and gasping for air after running for around thirty minutes. Even if he had jogged around the palace to do some errands, Yunho would be leaning against the pillars to gain his breath soon after and it takes quite some time to regain back his breath. Thankfully enough, when he had become a little bit older, the asthma has become better and it is easier for Yunho to breathe unlike the younger days. However, even when he is now an adult, he still would find trouble in breathing due to weather conditions and excessive rigorous activities. On bad days, Yunho won't even be able to perform any ual services to the royals, and that honestly saddens him as he likes to make people feel immense pleasure and happiness.
