his story, in short
matthew was born in los angeles, california. when he was young, his father left his mother, leaving her to raise matthew and his two younger brothers by herself. the absence of his father left matthew in more of a 'fatherly' position, taking on responsibilities like babysitting his brothers and walking them to and from school before he was even quite old enough to take care of himself. as a result, for a while he didn't do well in school because he was focused on household duties, but as his brothers got older, he switched gears and focused on school. in the midst of self study in medicine, he taught himself korean as a way of keeping in touch with his roots despite the fact that he'd never actually visited the country. after he graduated from high school he attended college in california with a focus in sports medicine, keeping the same track he'd adored since his teenage years. when he finished college, he packed up and moved to south korea on a bit of a whim, seeking a fresh start in a completely new element. he was lucky enough to quickly find a job as a physical therapist, and what's more, quickly find solace in a younger, and much more attractive, woman with a fierce yet dorky radiance and interest in many of the same things as him — her name was hayi.

1) he was never properly taught korean — he learned via online resources and group chats with natives, so his speaking isn't completely fluent and he isn't the best at writing. he is fluent in english and also knows a lot of spanish.
2) the smell or taste of grape (natural or artificial) makes him sick to the stomach.
3) he is really loud and obnoxious around his friends and people he has come to be comfortable with.

• i like to keep my wall clear of ooc chatting if possible. pm to plot or chat! i don't bite.
