chanwoo is basically what you would classify a chaebol trainee – the siwon or nichkhun of our generation, if you ask the others; his grandparents are the founders of a famous architecture firm, which his father currently manages, and his mom runs a trading company in japan. but despite being geared to pursue business and follow his elders' footsteps, chanwoo's priorities have undoubtedly lain in the arts. he has always been an expressive young lad while growing up – countless supporting and main characters in school plays and tv dramas, dance and lyric-writing his go-to methods of pouring his everyday frustrations out.
his decision to sign up to be a trainee came just before his first year of high school. his parents, though initially not too keen on the idea of their son being a singer and not an entrepreneur like them, allowed him to audition for entertainment companies, provided that (1) he does well in his remaining years of schooling, and (2) he chooses a business-related course for university. it seemed like a win-win for him, so he agreed.
chanwoo's training years were, needless to say, pretty generic – aside from falling victim to the occasional bullying from the older trainees, he pretty much just focused on improving his own skills: joining the occasional underground rap battles and gathering up his fellow trainee friends to form a dance crew; even going so far as to continue in taking a few commercial and acting gigs along the way. as of late, chanwoo's been training for a little over four years.

at first glance, one might say chanwoo is intimidating and unapproachable, what with his towering height and brooding eyes. he's actually, truly and bizarrely, quite the opposite: chanwoo likes being around people, would consider himself one of the older brothers in the entire roster of trainees even when he actually isn't – but that might be because he's an only child. chanwoo can be a little guarded, though, in a sense that he wants to have some self-preservation; there's only so much he can do when people talk about him, especially regarding his background. he's also genuine to a fault, the type to say things as they are, not bothering to sugarcoat his words when needed; years of training has taught him this, and chanwoo firmly believes in the notion of tough love when it comes to practice. he also gets a little bit competitive, but that's normal when you're vying for a spot in a project boygroup; the idol scene is much too cutthroat for people their age, and it's all he can do to not get dropped.
