ever since he was young, soonyoung had an unusual interest in supernaturals. for some reason, most of the people in his community still had the same old thought: supernaturals are dangerous, stay away from them. even the children his age had the same warning ingrained into their minds by their parents, but not soonyoung. in fact, his father was the reason why he was so fascinated by them. the bedtime stories his father read him may have sounded ridiculous and impossible, but the dreams he had when he slept every night were those filled with giants who reached heights no human would ever be able to reach with only their own two feet, fairies who flew around with their little wings, and merpeople who could swim down to the deepest trenches.

soonyoung was never meant to be born alive. he was only told that a miracle saved him from death, who already took his mother. he had learnt to accept it, even though he never got the chance to be with her. ("hey dad, do you think mom's okay?" he asked his father once in the middle of dinner. his father froze, a loud clink echoing around the dining room as the utensils slipped from his fingers. he could only give the small boy a smile, albeit a sad and heartbroken one, and reached out to place a hand over the child's. "she's watching us from heaven, soonyoung. of course she's fine. she's probably smiling down at you right now." and proud because you grew up to be the son she always wanted to have, he almost added. the boy grinned happily and looked up at the ceiling, and he thought that if he looked close enough, he would see his mother, smiling at him like his dad said.)

he was seven years old when he first stepped foot into the small town of magnolia springs because of some business his father had. other than the trees that gave the town its magical aura and the fact that most of the residents were supernaturals, it was a fairly simple town. however, in young soonyoung's eyes, he saw a completely unique and mystical world. his interest in the place and its inhabitants further increased. most of his short stay there was a blur, but on their trip home soonyoung only had one thought in mind: live there once he was old enough.

he developed his passion for photography which began some time during high school during a school trip. he wanted to keep the memory of seeing the magnificent view of the city from the top of the mountain they were at. soon it weren't only views he wanted to capture; he also desired to save certain moments through the act of taking pictures to perpetuate them.

by the time he turned twenty-two years old, he had graduated from college and had saved enough money to do so. of course, the days leading up to the move came with a few difficulties. his father was a little reluctant to let him go at first, and so was soonyoung himself. they only had each other, after all, and his dad only got older as the days passed. the younger male even offered to take his father with him, but the latter stubbornly refused, saying that he didn't want to leave their home. eventually, soonyoung went alone, with the promise of visiting every now and then.

now, soonyoung lives in a small house in magnolia springs, working as an amateur photographer. he can often be seen anywhere in town with his beloved camera in his hands, taking photos of anything and everything he sees. he also photographs people sometimes, aspiring to hold an exhibition someday. ​

as someone who barely experienced life as a teenager (as his friends said, just because he often declined their offer to go to parties), soonyoung is sometimes referred to as a pure boy, and he does seem like it - he's mostly innocent, disliking the act of doing deeds that would do harm to anyone or anything. he is also quite talkative and easygoing, talking to people regardless of their kind. his dislike of reading makes him clueless about a lot of topics people talk about, so to make up for it he asks a lot of questions just to understand the conversation. soonyoung also loves making the people around him smile; he isn't great at dealing with serious situations, and he often takes people's words to heart. ​
