Mike Jones wasn’t fronting when he rapped Back Then. Gilberto knew this all too well–growing up he was that lonely loner who got picked on because he wasn’t on the same level as the other boys. A single family home in Brooklyn is where a young Gilberto grow up. His parents were two hard working individuals that instilled values and morals in him at a young age. Not to mention he was a nerd so he got bullied double time. He ate lunch with the other rejects and most people would have thought this got to him but it never did. He was content with the way he was and knew that his time to shine would come one day. The older he got the more he grew into his looks. It wasn’t no time soon that the girls slowly started to become more interested in him but his mind was too busy on making money. From the time he was born Gilberto had always been into music. He was just as any other young boy growing up except he had a knack for music. Every aspect of it. He learned piano and that was shortly followed by guitar and other instruments. He always found a way to make the sounds around him sound melodical. How it was made and the different instruments and measures it took to put it together interested him. His mother was a retired singer and his father owned a few recording studios in Brooklyn. It was where he spent most of his time whenever he wasn’t in school.
The feel music gave him was a peaceful one and something he could easily get lost in. He knew his way around a mic and could easily sing a 16 with no hesitation but he loved to vibe to anything with substance more, he’s a big fan for the classics. His father gave him ownership of one of the recording studios once he finished with high school. With his academic skills he was allowed a full ride to any college of his choice and he decided to not follow in his father’s footsteps of working behind a register. So he packed his things and headed to Asia, South Korea to be exact where he attended University of Korea for Music Production. His parents supported his decision and sent him money for him to have but he wanted to succeed on his own so he took up djing at local clubs to keep him afloat. Living in Seoul was something he had to adjust to and with his versatile persona it wasn’t that hard for him to do so. Once he graduated and obtained his degree he quickly quit djing. He got an offer to produce with YG entertainment but the offer lasted as quick as it came.
Gilberto wasn’t hyped about working for anybody, he wanted to be his own boss. He went to grad school for business management/marketing. After obtaining that degree, Gilberto finally did the one thing it always wanted to do, go into business for himself. With his specialty in music he figured starting off with something he knew about would be smart. Business was going good for Gilberto and he didn’t have to answer to nobody but himself. That was until an old college friend asked him to be a silent partner in his restaurant he was trying to open. Gilberto was cool with it because he didn’t know much about the restaurant industry. He did however know a lot about business and marketing. Now that he’s 25 he couldn’t be more proud of his decision to turn down the offer YG entertainment gave him. He can continue with his success and kick his feet up relaxing, knowing that neither one of his parents had to struggle.
