Like any other struggling family in New York, Queens Draya had to hustle to stay afloat. Her mother worked as a registered nurse throughout the night in Harlem and her father owned a liquor store close by. While they were away eight year old, Draya and her fourteen year old brother would be exploring the subways, singing and tricking tourists out of their money. This is how Draya's love for photography and the New York City streets grew. Being surrounded by nothing but art on every corner, it always left Draya inspired to contribute to it but she was set back on that dream after the death of her brother.

Years back their home had been raided by the DEA after their suspension of her brother dealing out of the building was proven to be true. Draya watched them beat and drag her brother in front of her and no matter how hard she tried to fight them off to protect him, they still took him away, sending him straight to Rikers Island. He was only sixteen, nothing but skin and bones and was convicted as an adult once they automatically linked him to a burglary crime that happened in their building days before. The family fought hard to prove his innocence but in the end, they fell short and had to live with knowing that there was nothing they could do to have their son released. The last thing Draya ever received from her brother was a letter, encouraging her to continue to do well in life before he took his own life in his cell.

To this day, Draya dedicates most of her time to programs that help troubled youth in dedication to her brother. Whenever she’s not working in Seoul, she’s working hard upstate to keep young girls and boys out of the system by just being there for them not as a mentor but as a friend. She plans to continue to be a help in whatever way that she can because she believes all her brother ever wanted was someone like her who would really listen and understood.

years later, draya still has the same ambition to help those who need it the most. she's a junior probation counselor and mentor for struggling teens. even if it seems like she has her life figured out she struggles with her own demons from time. hateful exes, alcohol abuse, entertaining drama with friends, not knowing how to settle down. navigating at only 28 years old is hard.
