Being born was something that was never supposed to happen. When her sister was six years old, Chungha's mother was beaten by her abusive husband. He was killed by their mother after trying to come after her sister, and her mother died during childbirth, making Chungha a premature baby. The sisters went on to be separated, the older going to stay with their grandmother while CHungha was sent into foster care. Eventually, she was adopted by a couple in Texas, where she would grow up.

It was obvious from an early age that Chungha was gifted. Not just musically but mentally as well. So gifted in fact that she started school early, at a private school her adoptive parents sent her to. Once she was old enough, they sent her to a boarding school back in South Korea where she would be quickly scouted and started to train to be an idol. Starting out with small gigs here and there like commercials and small roles in dramas, she eventually debuted as the main dancer and main vocalist for a 7 member girl group. Despite their booming popularity, the group eventually became known as "chungha and the backup dancers" due to her popularity among the members.

From age 14 to 19, she was apart of this group. There were rumors that the only reason why she was popular was that she was sleeping around with the higher-ups though this was false. She ended up becoming the face of the group along with two other members as they got the most gigs. Eventually, the group was disbanded, some of Chungha's dating scandals cited as the reason. During her time as an idol, she never gave up school and was able to get her masters in psychology and bachelors in arts by the time she was 22. After the disbandment, Chungha fell into a deep depression that lasted almost a year before started to work on her music again. Having broken up with her boyfriend around the same time who treated her horribly, she released a song, Why Don't You Know? about their relationship and without a label before starting to audition for companies to join again.

After spending months auditioning and working as a freelance backup dancer and choreographer, she eventually found Blue Moon Entertainment, who was founded by her old schoolmate, Lee Taeyong. Her next comeback under the company, Rollercoaster, was produced and choreographed by a friend. Her third comeback, Love U, was again produced and choreographed completely by Chungha while her latest comeback, was created by her new company. Taeyong eventually sold Blue Moon and Chungha was lucky enough to find a new company not long after, allowing her to be able to make a comeback quickly. Most of the money she makes has and still goes to her parent's, though now that she's a successful celebrity, her mother's family which had disowned her, accepted Chungha, allowing her to find out that she was the cousin of Kyungri and Hyemin of Park Industries.
