Hyuna was was the youngest daughter from the leader of a very old and wealthy Kasai Kitsune clan and his Concubine, a Kori Kitsune. Already as a child she had a high affinity to the Fire element as her father but as she grew older she also showed the ability to manipulate ice, just not as strongly as her mother a full bred Kori Kitsune could. 

Ever since that revelation Hyuna was a thorn in her stepmothers (the noble consort) eyes, especially since her husband showed more interest in the child of a mere concubine than her own daughters. 

Hyunas father died and left them behind with debts, no one knew that he gambled with leaders of other Clans. Without a male heir the noble consort took advantage of the situation and got rid of the concubine before selling Hyuna off into slavery.
