Hyuna was born in New York on June 6, 1992. Her mother was a famous Chinese actress and her father was a well known plastic surgeon. When she was 4, her family moved to Japan for a show her mother was in that lasted 4 years, then they moved to Hong Kong for another show as well as for a new job offer her father had received. At the age of 12, the family moved back to New York, though Hyuna would be the only one to leave not even a few months later. It was an armed robbery, where the bullet that killed her father grazed her, leaving a scar on her hip. The robbers her and left her for dead but she was luckily noticed but a couple passing by who helped her.

Due to the trauma, she moved to Busan, South Korea with no choice but to live with her paternal grandmother, her paternal uncle and his wife. Always having had a love for the arts because of her mother, Hyuna took many part time jobs to pay for lessons and eventually becoming well known in the underground scene and joined a dance crew called Da OutKasts. It wasn't long before she was scouted by companies and ended up training at YG for 8 months before being transferred to Sapphire Ent where she would end up debuting in their girl group HERA. Her uncle, who had never liked Hyuna's mother, and his wife weren't supportive and forced her to leave the group and her company, saying they were concerned for her health. However her grandmother was supportive and encouraged her to transfer to JYP where she debuted with Wonder Girls as their main rapper and maknae. Official reports say that she left the group and company for health reasons but in reality, she had been replaced without notification.

So with that she went back into the underground scene continuing to train and dance until 2011 where she would debut as the leader of a girl group called Mania as well as their lead vocalist, main rapper and visual. However the group was short lived as the company went bankrupt shortly after they debuted due to the CEO gambling all the money away and then taking off. The group was quickly disbanded and their contracts terminated without discussion or payment. Hyuna thought of giving up, but wanted to make her parents and grandmother proud of her. So she auditioned for a company called Starlight Entertainment where she debut as a member of the group 5tars as well as it's 4 member subunit S4U and the project group Starlight Girls. She would come to find out that her grandmother passed away on the day of her debut stage performance.

A few months passed by and despite still mourning, everything else seemed to be going pretty well. She had the full support of her group and members and had even found who she thought was the love of her life. Her company were just embarking on a World Tour when the CEO suddenly resigned and left them and not long after her boyfriend had broken up with her. Stranded in Japan with a broken heart, Hyuna stayed there for a few months and worked as a choreographer. She went back to Korea to try and stay with her uncle for a while only to find out that he too had passed away from his wife who had already remarried. So having no real family left, she used the money she had earned over the years as well as the money her family had left her and got her own apartment and kept herself busy by dancing with her crew and working as a choreographer and backup dancer for various artists while auditioning for companies. They kept rejecting her for being "too old" despite her reputation as a sunbae artist. However, she was eventually scouted by the CEO of Zeta, where she works as a soloist and choreographer.

PersonalityHyuna is very outgoing and friendly, between NYC and Busan, her way of speaking can be a bit rough, although she does speak in both the Seoul and Busan dialect. She's a perfectionist and is known for staying up for hours practicing late into the night and morning to perfect a routine or song. So much so that she's lost her voice on more than one occasion and took up rapping to save her voice or else she fears she wouldn't be able to sing anymore. She's a bit of a tomboy but also likes to dress up (yes, she knows it's weird). She can also be very stubborn and kind of violent. She also has a motherly instinct that can take over at random times. However, she's a very loyal person and also looks out for and takes care of her friends and those she loves and cares about.
