He believed in the green light, the orgastifc future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter. Tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessy into the past.

The cool winds of February gloom rushed through as the skies above grew dark, the world below left in the shadows of grey clouds foreboding an imminent storm.

Droplets rained down onto the hospital window likes tears from Heaven. Labored wails echoed against the roars of thunder just outside the hospital room.

Then came the light that twinkled and filled all hearts in the room with hope. The first son, the heir to a family legacy, the child who would accomplish great things, Jasper Seo.

His father, the man who had crafted for himself a little slice of the American Dream, now would have someone to pass on all his fortune. He cradled the tiny newborn for a moment as short as a breath before nurses took him away. A wide Cheshire smile curled back down into a scowl of disappointment, attentions forced towards yet another new arrival.

A twin identical in their features yet, somehow, the stars that once glittered with promise suddenly were overcast by the thunderous storms ravishing the land. Then came the second son, an unnecessary burden of nature, John Seo.

From that night onwards, the two twin brothers would lead very different paths. Jasper, the eldest by mere minutes, hailed as the Seo family's unsung hero who would continue their great wealth and business. Meanwhile John... Well, he was just there to look pretty.

Pretty he was indeed, his beauty viewed as the only useful aspect of his character. Even that was overshadowed by his brother Jasper who grew up to become the most beloved, most talented, most cherished by all. John never stood a chance. He was a few minutes too late.

The Seo family held very little significance in their homeland of South Korea, but in America they were a force to be reckoned with. During the 70's they immigrated to Callifornia and made a name for themselves within Hollywood as the kings of Asian talent management. The agency grew their clientele, prospered, and decades later have become one of the largest talent agencies in the nation for more than just the Asian market. They expanded their business into public relations, marketing, and even run plastic surgery clinics specific for all the rich and young hopefuls in the industry aiming to 'look the part'.

Yet success was still coupled with high risk of failure. With the changing climate and demands, the Seo business would need someone to carry the torch. Jasper was chosen for such a job, named since birth as the one true heir who would make things happen. He was coddled by their parents and given every opportunity to learn, grow, and hone his skills. As such, John was left in the very far corners of their eyes. They would throw money at him and send him off to his own devices as long as he stayed out of the way, never daring to outshine his older twin.

Neglected carelessly by the ones who were supposed to love him, John sought solace amongst the many stars that surrounded him in the Hollywood hills. He saw all the actors, musicians, and performers on each their own stages, receiving all the applaud and praise a lonely boy could ever wish for. A yearning soon developed within the pits of his heart when he was just a young boy barely breaking into puberty. He would become a star no matter what he had to do. No excuses. Zero chance for failure.

John began chasing around all the artists signed under his family's agency in hopes one would take him under their wing and teach him, causing quite the disturbance. Finally his father demanded to meet at his office. John thought this would be his chance. He could prove himself just as talented and valuable as his brother if only their parents would give him a chance. Instead he would only find heartbreak as tiny John sat before the grandiose desk where his father sat across, cold dark eyes gazing into the boys' soul yet giving not an ounce of compassion.

"I can be a star," the boy said as he held back little droplets of tears welling up in his eyes like the raindrops of the windowsil from the eve his was born. "I can do it. I'll make the family name even bigger than before."

"No." That one word he always dreaded to hear. It made his heart shrivel up and rot in the pitch black nothingness. The word that drilled a hole inside and only kept growing until one day there would surely be nothing left but a total void. "Why would we invest so much time and money into a career that you will never have? Your grades are subpar, you have no sense of responsibility. All you do is prance around, daydreaming, and distracting everyone in the process. I know what stars look like. I have been in the business of making stars since before you were ever in this world. You will never be a star."

At only twelve years old, he felt his life was over. He was crushed by the constant disapproval and malignant words. No one would have faith in him, no one would believe in his dreams. If his family wouldn't support him, then he would just have to go do it on his own.

Two years later, once he convinced his parents to open a bank account for his allowance so they wouldn't have to put up with his pestering for money, John set his plans into motion. He began skipping classes at the private school he was enrolled in, using the funds from his allowance to attend dance classes, hire voice tutors, burning right through every single cent he could get his hands on in order to learn the skills he so desperately wanted. Just when he was beginning to see some progress, things went south all over again.

When his brother Jasper began to notice John's absenses from school, he decided to follow the younger twin in hot pursuit, determined to sus out whatever mischief John was up to this time. He tracked his every move all the way to a local dance studio where John had been taking classes. Immediately Jasper rushed to the family's agency and demanded to see their father, reporting everything he'd seen like the little Daddy's boy he had always been.

Furious that John had defied his orders, their father stormed out to catch John red-handed at the dance studio. Snatching the boy's arm and dragging him off the premises, rage consumed every inch of air until it suffocated John. "If you won't listen to me, then you can pay your own way in life." With a final huff in resentment, his father pushed him into a pile of trash gathered up in the back alley behind the dance studio. Then as if he never existed at all, the man in his expensive designer suit brushed the dust off himself, turned his back, and walked away. He'd been alone all his life. Now, completely abandoned, what difference would it make?
Trigger Warning : Drug selling and criminal activity.
How naive. Of course everything would change. There was no more money to support him, no roof to live under, and he'd even been pulled out of school. There was no way John would allow himself to be put into the foster care system, worried that it would be pointless to find a new 'family' that would only toss him aside the same way his biological family did. Chasing after his dreams was no longer an option. He had to grow up fast if he wanted to survive.

On the streets of Hollywood betwixt all the glitz and glamour were sad disgusting realities. Gangs and criminals were in cramped in the thousands, making it all too easy for a lost young boy to be swayed towards a life of lawlessness. While begging for cash at a convenience store one afternoon, a few older men approached him with the offer of a job. All he had to do was pick up and deliver packages around the city. Easy enough, right? All things come with a catch. For a year he was delivering packages without any questions before he got curious and peeked inside. It was bags upon bags of powdery .
Reluctantly he told his bosses what he had done, cowering in fear to what they would do to him for even bringing up the subject. To his shock and dismay, they did nothing. They didn't yell, hit him, or tell him to get lost. Instead they laughed and brought him into a special dark room, believing it was high time they 'educated' him on the business.
They had become his mentors in crime, teaching him their ways and rules. He climbed the ranks slowly over the years, going from a mere delivery boy in the dark to one of his mentors' most valuable sellers. As dangerous and immoral their business was, knowing they might ditch him at any sign of trouble, John still felt at home. He was finally needed and wanted. He even made his own money. What more could he ask for?

Apparently he could want more. Deep down inside he'd never forgotten the little boy who strived to become a star, wished that he could show himself off to millions of people who would all adore him for who he was. He would never be truly happy as long as he had to always stay hidden in the shadows. He'd suppressed those dreams to the ends of his mind for so mnay years. That was until the news of an immerging star that would reignite his passions.

One YouTube video. Millions of views. Comments flooded with love and praise for the one talented boy in the video who showcased an angelic voice. And it wasn't John. It was his twin brother, Jasper. Confused and desperate for answers, John reached out to his brother for the first time in years.
"Oh, you didn't hear?" Jasper said as the two met face-to-face in the elder's penthouse apartment, already midway through packing his things to go off on some important trip. "After I saw you at that dance studio when we were kids, something just clicked for me. I really didn't think Dad would say yes, but he gave his blessing for me to go audition!"

"Audition... for what?" John questioned with a scowl on his face, unnerved by what he suspected would come next. Jasper's oblivious smile only spread wider as he let out a gleeful laugh.

"For an idol company, duh. I made it! I'm going to Seoul to start my training. I'm going to be a kpop star. Aren't you happy for me?"

Jasper stood there beside his bed as he looked off towards the younger, awaiting some sort of joy or praise from the other. He would never receive such a gift. John had been silenced by the revelation, frozen in his place mere inches away from the boy who had stolen his life. Jasper took all the love from their parents, ripped away all of John's chances. Now he was going to throw away the perfectly good opportunity of being the family's heir just so he could steal what was always supposed to be John's dream?

Trigger Warning : Violence and murder.
He just couldn't take it anymore. Having to hold back all his anger and pain while his brother lived the life he'd always wanted- No, the life he deserved.

Suddenly the small gap of space between them was completely closed once John came pouncing at full force. The twins crashed onto the mattress as his hands wrapped around the elder's throat, clenching with the might of snake constricting its prey inch by painstaking inch. Jasper choked and gasped for breath, doing his best to kick and scratch John off of his body.

This time it was Jasper who didn't stand a chance. He never had to fight for his life before, always kept sheltered from the real world and handed everything to him on a silver platter encrusted in diamonds. For as talented, beautiful, and intelligent Jasper was... He simply was not as strong.

John couldn't seem to control his flaming rage. As the hatred seeped out from within his soul, it in turn absorbed every last drop of life from the man beneath him. He was staring into a mirror at the most perfect version of himself until, at last, the reflection withered away. Jaspers eyes once full of dread soon drifted off towards the vast empty void. His lips no longer quivered. His body no longer shook with desperation. He was gone once and for all.

First there was serendipity. A wave of relief and freedom washed over his every sense, John releasing the heaviest of sighs as if the world's weight had been lifted off his shoulders. There was no more twin brother for him to be compared to, no evil entity of perfection that would steal his shine ever again. There could only be one star and it would be John Seo.

Yet soon came reality cracking his moment of peace like a record scratch. He'd lived a life of crime before, but this time it was serious. Jasper was dead now and people would come looking. Their parents, the company that signed him as a trainee, next the police would get involved and find John's DNA all over the scene. Now he was panicking.

Leaping off the lifeless body that turned colder by each second, John paced back and forth throughout the bedroom, a million thoughts racing in his head. What would he do? What would happen to him? How could he have done this?

Then came the emerald green light cascading through the blinds of the window, basking over John with warmth as he lost himself in epiphany. Jasper had lived and created the life John always desired... So why not claim it for himself?

Quickly he finished packing all the contents of Jasper's closet into the luggage that had been left open on the bed. He showered in his bathroom, cut his hair in the exact same style, dressing himself in fresh designer clothes just as Jasper would. Using the fingerprint of his brother's corpse, he unlocked Jasper's phone to check what hour his flight was supposed to be that night.

12:00 AM. John had exactly four hours to sneak his brothers body into the trunk of his expensive race car, drive out to the desert, bury his body six feet under miles and miles of sand in the middle of nowhere, then make it back to the airport to get on his flight.

John would simply become Jasper. The real John was abandoned by everyone, left to disappear into the shadows. No one ever had or ever would go looking for John Seo. They'd think he maybe went off on a bender and died somewhere. No one would care. John Seo could become a ghost. Jasper had everything though. The adoration of his parents, money, and now the chance to blossom into a star-studded artist in a whole new country. They were utterly identical after all. Even their own mother had a hard time telling them apart. It seemed like the perfect plan.

That night he hid the real Jasper far into the desert and boarded his flight, enjoying the luxury of first class, even sending a heartfelt text to his mother and father. John flew to Seoul where he could start anew. He could never again be John. As much as he hated the name Jasper, always reminded of the evil who'd tried to ruin everything, it didn't matter. After all, once John became a star with a stage name, who would care to call him Jasper?

Once landing in Seoul, John- now known as 'Jasper'- was escorted to the new trainee dorms at Lotus Entertainment where he would begin his dreams. No one ever questioned him. He blended in perfectly and took to the training with as much passion and dedication as he once did on his own in America. Life was good.

Years came and went like the changing seasons until finally came the day for his debut. He would join an already well established group under Lotus, X.MPIRE. That day he chose his new name to be 'Zero'. Zero chance for failure. Zero chance that anyone or anything could get in his way of success. Even after his group disbanded, his story wasn't over.

It was just the beginning.
