the early years:

kim myeongji's mother and father fell on hard times when they gave birth to myeongji and her older sister - myeongeun.
- sister was a very diligent person and very very smart, was the one running the family since their father passed away early and because their mother has no idea how to take care of children properly.
- mother is addicted to gambling and alcohol as a way to cope after her husband's death.  is no longer in contact with the sisters.
- myeongeun became myeongji's legal guardian as soon as she became of age.  she studied law and became a prosecutor at a young age as well.
- when they were growing up, the two of them worked countless part time jobs to make ends meet.  when myeongeun started studying for the bar exam, even more pressure was placed upon myeongji's shoulders to work and raise money.  the result was myeongji's vast array of odd jobs that she did during middle school and high school.  she's done simple things like being a cashier to doing deliveries, to being a locksmith's assistant, to being a receptionist at a tattoo parlour.
- as a result, myeongji's marks started slipping.  only by one or two, but it just enough that she wasn't able to get the full ride scholarship her high school was offering.  she was able to hide this from her sister for a long time until it was time to apply for university.  myeongji knew that myeongeun couldn't afford another loan to help myeongji pay for university.
- she ended up at solace on a special scholarship given to her by the dean himself.  she had been noticed and acknowledged for her intelligence by chance.
- and that started her journey at solace.

myeongji's sister:
- sister is very independent, makes good money and from an early age was the one taking care of myeongji. 
- myeongeun is very harsh and will use any means to achieve her goal.  she works in a male dominated workplace so she feels the need to work harder to prove herself and her abilities.  this sort of hardworking mindset was also passed to myeongji as well.
- myeongji feels inferior to her sister but follows the path set by her.  study hard and get into a good university.
- she also has a lot of respect for her sister because of how hardworking she is.  a part of her strives to be more like myeongeun.

the here and now:

- myeongji can be considered an extremely unpopular at solace academy.  at first glance, she is seen by other students as a control freak who only knows how to study.  many rumors fly around her head about her studying habits, her typically quiet nature, and her sister.  people think she sees herself as above others, so in almost a retaliatory way - those students have made all sorts of absurd rumors about myeongji.  they range to her sleeping with professors to get her high marks, to her being cruel to others.
- for myeongji, she usually takes these words in stride and tries to see the good in others, despite all the hateful things she's heard being whispered about her.  she feels distant from others because she can't bring herself to be like her classmates, so the more distant she is with them... the more rumors are made about her.  however, because of her standing as a scholarship student, no one really dares to insult her or to truly ostracize her to her face.  it's usually limited to whispers around campus.
- myeongji can still feel the effects of these rumors.  so she closes up even more, not wanting to let others see her heart too clearly.

- as described above, myeongji comes off very cold at first, but soon you can see that she's usually quite nervous with people her age
- incredibly well spoken and elegant with her words.  however, because of her lack of experience with others, she finds it hard to communicate properly with people her age, coming off as very formal and even serious.  many take this the wrong way and see it as her acting above others.
- she finds it hard to fit in because of how she was forced to mature and become independent at an early age without her mother.  so she can seem kind of awkward.
- myeongji has almost no self worth because of how often she is compared with myeongeun.  she has made a habit of keeping her nose down and doing what she is told most of the time - unwilling to really step out of her box or break any rules.  one could say that she has lost her place in the world.
- myeongji is quite proud of her cooking skills because it is something that she is distinctly better at than her sister.  she is compared with her sister often so she feels at home and happy when she is cooking.
- despite giving off a prim and proper look because she is in nursing and her hardworking nature, she's actually a bit of a tomboy.  she enjoys horror movies, large rollercoasters, and even does taekwondo. she also loves mystery novels, and because of her sister's previous goals for her to become part of politics - she is great at deduction and sleuthing.
- she loves taekwondo and used to get late night lessons from an elderly man at a discounted price.  the man knew about her family troubles and could see myeongji's passion for the sport, so towards the end of her high school career as things got busier, even gave her lessons for free.  her dedication and talent for the sport lead her to inheriting the captain position.  because she is incredibly organized as well, she manages the team and their activities efficiently.
- her organized nature also helps her in helping run the mental health club.  she is passionate about making sure that students know that mental health is just as important as physical health and she works hard to ensure that it has all the resources it needs for stressed out students and is always trying to think of cool events to relieve stress for students.
- myeongji's true personality can be seen the most when she's out on nursing placements and interacting with patients.  it can be easily seen that she has a kind heart that truly wants to help better the lives of others.  she has a strong fighting spirit when it comes to injustice and always wants to try and do the right thing for others.  her heart is pure and she likes helping others. she is very passionate about things she cares about.
- because of her vast amount of varied work experience, she can interact with lots of people from many walks of life quite easily.  when she gets comfortable with someone, her more cheerful side comes out.
