[trigger warning: sensitive & controversial topics ahead. suicide, , etc]

the winter eve cried upon the death of a mother who had struggled from the dusk of the day until the dawn of a new morning. a mixture of cries broke the cold silence that fell upon the room, the birth of a pair of twins blessed by the harsh blizzard that hit the city soon after. the statue of the holy mother of the heavens stared upon the family of the jung's, struck with grief more than joy.

perhaps that was the start of a curse, of a story doomed from the moment it started.

born to the jung's, a name that boasted of incredible influence, power, and wealth, jinsoul was the younger twin to jung jaehyun, born a few minutes before her mother had died at childbirth. the jung's were owners of several lawfirms, all of which hosted only the talented and best employees. however, like many others, there had been whispers of their... rather illegal deeds, which of course, haven't been proven yet.

the life she knew was one of luxury, each day of her life a constant exposure to the spotlights and uninvited paparazzi. but despite her luxurious life, despite the endless people that told her she was the luckiest girl - pretty, intelligent, and rich - she had always been alone, separated from kids outside her family by an invisible barrier she had never been able to break. there was something strange with the jung twins, they had said. there was something strange with jung jinsoul. her hands were too cold, her eyes were too empty.

she was too pretty. she was too empty. she felt more like a doll than a living being.

she had tried to reach out. but no one had extended their hand to hold her cold, tiny one. not even her father, who remembered his late wife's face whenever he ever glanced at his only daughter.

there was only one person who had wanted to get close to her. perhaps it was because he was her literal other half, perhaps it was because the two of them had no one else to hold, the two halves became even more connected. jinsoul found her solace in the arms of her brother. she found her comfort by his side, found her light in his eyes, and truly, she knew.

when he had cupped her face in his large hands; when he had leaned in to place a kiss on her lips, ever so lightly as though she were delicate, she knew.

jung jaehyun was her soulmate.

he was the one who completed her. he was the one who stood by her as they grew up, who warmed her cold hands, brought life to her eyes. he was the first one to make her feel that she was more than just a pretty face her family liked to use for decoration.

he was her clarity, the gravity that kept her grounded. there was no one in the world that could ever replace what him. there was no one in the world who jinsoul would ever accept in her life. after all, it was the two of them against the world.

it was the two of them alone, hand in hand, against a world that would never accept what they had.

but like every other fairy tale she had read when she was younger, the glittery fascination she held as she looked at life with forced rosy-colored lenses had to end.

twins weren't supposed to love each other - not in the way the jung twins did. twins weren't supposed to kiss. twins weren't supposed to hold each other like lovers under the moonlight that peeked through their bedrooms. twins weren't supposed to be as close as they were, but what was she supposed to do, when all she held onto for dear life was her older brother?

on their eighteenth birthday, jinsoul's world shattered.

jung jaehyun was to be married to a girl from another family. she was pretty, smart, but naive. she was kind in ways that jinsoul wasn't, warm in ways that jinsoul could never be. the girl's name was kang jisoo, and everyone thought she was an angel. everyone, except the twins.

jinsoul hated it. she loathed how jisoo took jaehyun away from her. she hated how jinsoul's father, the man who had never looked her way ever since the day he had slapped her face in frustration, absolutely adored jisoo. she hated jisoo for having everything jinsoul never had, and she hated jisoo even more, when she was trying to steal the only thing that had kept her sane.

for the first time, jinsoul's world had been colored in red.

kang jisoo needed to disappear.

and jinsoul didn't care about what she had to do in order to make jisoo completely disappear from her twin's world. jung jaehyun was jinsoul's, and that would never be jisoo.

but jinsoul was cunning. she would never dirty her hands directly with jisoo's filthy blood. instead, she used everything she had to her advantage. no matter what she did, jaehyun would always stand by her side. no matter what she said, jaehyun would always be on her side. and so, jinsoul began to build a stage.

a carefully built stage, and she placed her actors on it. she led the play as though the actors had strings in their joints and it connected to her hands. she was the puppeteer, and they were her mere dolls.

it was so, so easy to manipulate the human mind, she found out.

it started with the whispers. small, false rumors. white little lies that piled up and up around kang jisoo. it wasn't difficult for jinsoul to control the variables. by eighteen, with the help of her brother, both of their reputation had improved significantly, and no matter how absurd, the populace always took what they would say. and if one had told the right people, word would spread as fast as jinsoul had expected.

"oh did you hear about that jisoo?"
"yeah? that girl slept with..."
"oh my god! has she got no taste?"
"and not only that, she also..."

it worked much more quickly than she had expected.

jisoo's visits to the jung mansion lessened, and she wasn't as jolly as she used to be. but that wasn't enough, jinsoul thought to herself. it wasn't enough. she needed jisoo out of the picture. completely. she needed jisoo out of their world, and she wanted jisoo to be incapable of bothering them again in the future.

the next day, the kang's business had gone bankrupt.

the day after, jisoo's body was found falling from the top of the rooftop of their company.

jinsoul had never felt lighter in her life than she had the day her father officially announced the end of the engagement. no one had known what the twins had done. and really, those who had their suspicions...

... had their mouths shut tight, she supposed.

as they grew up, jinsoul began to build another persona. she knew what the world wanted, and she knew what she would need if she wanted to have power. she was intelligent, and she put it to use. first, she sculpted the most perfect facade - a mask that only her twin had been able to crack down so easily. second... she needed to be on top. she needed to have authority. she wanted power, and the only way to do that was to get close to the authorities as much as possible.

by her second year, she was elected as the youngest vice president of the student government.

by her third year, she was chosen as the president of the student government, and she had held this position until her graduation year.

now, she was known as the ice queen. unapproachable, yet charismatic. cold, yet enchanting. and all of it?

just a mask she had created in order to keep jung jaehyun to hersself.

personality ;
jinsoul is a playful individual, and she often displays herself as someone who's (supposedly) approachable, yet someone would argue that she exudes an aura that gives a rather intimidating sense upon others. she presents herself with regality and a prideful stance. a queen meant to rule, if one asked those who saw her. there is a dangerous glint behind supposedly empty eyes, and those who catch on it find themselves on a more defensive ground with the female.

she is cunning and devilishly smart. she's known for being mysterious, as her true intentions are never revealed unless she herself reveals them. she lies easily with a straight face, and is capable of bending or manipulating the truth in order to get the outcome she wants. she has complete confidence in what she deals with - whther it be lying to the court or in problems she herself creates. she rarely shows fear in front of her enemies, and refuses to show any kind of vulnerabilities to anyone, as a result of her harsh environment when she was younger.

despite not being above using violence, humiliation, and verbal abuse in order to get what she wants, she never loses the elegance and regality that has been instilled in her by her upbringing. she is often blunt and straightforward, unforgiving with her words if she so decides to be honest with someone, paired with a sharp tongue that very few people are safe from. however, she speaks with a polite yet strong tone, givng an illusion of a reliable leader.

she's a good actress, as proven by her incredibly well-built facade. she's capable of hiding her hatred or annoyance within her mask. she's rarely seen without a smile. it can be said that her smile is her poker face nevertheless, she shows her care and affections in subtlety, though it is mostly jaehyun on the receiving end of this. she, however, loses her patience when it comes to jung jaehyun. it is not an exaggeration that jinsoul would kill for him.

people don't arrive broken. they start with passion and yearning 'till something comes along that disabuses them of those notions.
