around five thousand years ago in ancient egypt, the life-giving river nile gave birth to the earlies deities that ever walked the plains of the earth. the goddess isis and her husband osiris emerged, alongside other major and minor gods and goddesses. among these great deities, came forth a powerful one that even took away osiris's life; death. and it came in the primal form which the egyptians later personified as anubis, god of death, guider of souls, keeper of the seven gates of the underworld. he was depicted as a being associated with wolves and jackals, punishing the evil souls and reincarnating the good ones. ancient egyptians feared and worshipped death, welcoming the afterlife as an eternal destination for their souls.
modern day
these days, you can spot lord anubis in his human form strolling the streets of the gods' new empire holding a cup of coffee. almost always adorning the color black and gold, you can spot him easily with his long black coat, neat black pinstripped suit, black slacks and black leather shoes. you can confirm it's lord anubis once those striking pair of obsidian gaze stare back at you. you will feel as if your whole soul is exposed before your very eyes and your sins unveiled. but don't worry, that's what gazing in the eyes of death would feel like. you can spot lord anubis, which normally goes by the name kim jongin or kai, teaching egyptian mythology at the local university. despite being the force of death himself, the lord of the underworld enjoys spending time amongst humans. don't let his godly charms confuse you, for he can easily kiss your soul out of your body.

001 // "death is the path to immortality" (0/2)

underworld was supposedly his domain, the afterlife and its vast realm was supposed to be unreachable except for him. his duty for the past five thousand years was to guide souls to their journey in the afterlife, to weigh their deeds upon the scales and determine where they should end up next. it was his sole responsibility, not even the great osiris could take over that job. he thought his existence was solely for the purpose. but ever since demons breached the gates of the underworld and feasted on the millions of souls; both mortals and demigods alike, waiting to be judged, anubis knew he created for something else too. now, the realm of the underworld has crumbled and reigned by creatures he dare not say. all working for one being, one evil. and the imbalance in the cosmos was making the god of death uneasy. too many occupants in hell, would mean disaster on heaven's side. but millions of souls missing and eaten by demons? it could only mean the destruction of all the realms. and that would only unleash the demon apophis upon this world. and anubis is determined to stop that.

also knowing that nobody in their ranks knew better of the underworld realm than lord anubis himself, the gods have asked him to embark on a quest. in his quest to stop the forces of the demon apophis from rising, he has begrudgingly asks for your help. he needs a warrior, a tactician, a god cunning enough to trick even death himself, to enter the domains of hell and come back out. you both need to travel to the underworld, an unlikely alliance, simply to see just how far the demon apophis has awakened. will you both succeed?

002 // "cheating death is never easy" (0/2)

in the last great war against the forces of evil, you were badly injured. Because gods do not have souls, they hence have no place in the afterlife, unlike the mortals. they just simply vanish into the cosmos and probably be reborn again as another primal force to fit the balance of the universe. but the god of death was there to witness you in your final moments just before you started to disintegrate. he knew just how important your presence is to the world and just how big your role is to keep the balance. he knew your death had to be prevented. in a moment of unexpectedness, the god of death released you from its chains and gave you your essence back. in return, he lost a large part of himself, rendering him weak into the state that he is now. but a debt owed, is a debt that must be paid.
