Section oo1 : history / about

baekhyun, in his opinion, lived a short and unfulfilling life. in his twenty-seven years of life, he had not known the clutch of family, the embrace of love, or even the simple release of relaxation.

born the illegitimate child of a wealthy stockbroker, baekhyun lived the large majority of his childhood as a secret. his mother, a young and struggling makeup artist, exerted much effort into hiding this fact from her son; but, baekhyun had always been rather precocious, and despite not fully understanding the context of the word "adultery," deduced on his own that there was another family his father went home to during the week.

it was not until his father suddenly died of a stress-induced heart attack (perhaps from the guilt of balancing two unjust families) that baekhyun met his apparent half-family. yet even at ten year old, he could read the disdain in their faces, and after that unfortunate day, their paths never crossed again.

from that day on, it was baekhyun and his mother. for a short while, at least.

the day his mother was diagnosed with lung cancer, baekhyun wondered spitefully to himself if this was the universe's punishment for her adultery. he regretted these thoughts when his mother, his only crutch and love in this world, passed away six months later.

after being adopted by his aunt, his mother's inexperienced younger sister, at age fifteen, baekhyun dedicated his life to his studies. he graduated top of his class, and with the money left behind by his father (surprised he was, to find that he had been included in his will), went on to study biology in hopes of becoming a surgeon. likewise, he finished university in the top ten of his class and easily made his way into medical school.

throughout his life and schooling, he had been known for being the intelligent, studious friend who could always crack a laugh. everyone had something to say about him. "yeah, baek, he's amazing! he's top of the class!" and "byun baekhyun is so funny, and such a great friend!" were commonplace sayings about the young man. everyone felt as though they knew him, yet he felt as though no one had ever truly understood him.

he had never had any true friends, until he found himself surrounded by them in lavande. he had never fallen in love, for the only woman he had ever see a future with long evaded him.

after the murderous death of a close friend and a heartbreak long enough to last a lifetime, baekhyun once again found himself immersed in his work. it felt nice, for a short while, to pretend that people cared for him and that true love existed, but he soon found fantasies were often detrimental.

after graduating from medical school, baekhyun finally began his medical residency. it felt like a dream come true; it was all he had worked hard for. then, why did he feel so empty? was it the fact that he had little family to celebrate his successes with? was it that he came home from every exhausting shift to an empty bed? even with his advanced mind, he could not figure it out. he had worked his off his entire life, pushing any other obligations to the back of his mind. yet he felt little pride or contentment in his achievements.

therefore when he died, alone in his bed of an accidental sleeping pill overdose, he wondered to himself if it was truly accidental. it was not calculated, it was not planned. still, when he had taken those pills, fueled by insomnia despite his hectic working (or perhaps, overworking) schedule, he had felt a sense of peace. the first he had felt in a long while.

he had lived an uneventful life, and died an uneventful death. in the end, he wondered, would there be anyone to care?
