growing up, mingyu did not have the easiest childhood.  his mother passed away when he was 10 due to cancer and ever since then, his father became an alcoholic and gamblind addict. day and night, mingyu and his younger brother would suffer, relentlessly getting abused by their father. this essentially left mingyu to take care of him and his brother. as soon as he was old enough, mingyu started to work, working multiple odd part-time jobs, knowing that he just had to get him and his brother away from their father. however, the night that their father almost ended up killing his younger brother, mingyu knew enough was enough. mingyu called the police on his father. his father arrested, child protection services took away his brother to be put into the foster care system due to him still being a minor. mingyu was left to be on his own due to him being a legal adult. luckily, the foster family that adopted mingyu's brother was a rich, loving family. mingyu's brother grew up loved, while mingyu ended up growing up in the shadows, only being able to support his brother from afar. but then came the day when his younger brother had extremely good news for the both of them. he had finally told his foster parents the truth about mingyu's existence and their relations to each other. the foster parents had decided to welcome mingyu like a son to the family as well, hiring him as their personal assistant. on top of that, mingyu's brother had excelled in his academics, winning a scholarship to study in america. they both moved to america, mingyu got a job as a bartender / server in the k-town of LA, whilst his brother studied. everything was going well until the night of that partcular house party..  in which mingyu witnessed his brother committ a horrendous crime, but only to turn a blind eye to it. he ignored the girl's pleas for help, calling her a gold digger and a when she desperately approached him begging to testify in court. after all that him and his brother had gone through, he couldn't let some reckless girl ruin his brother's future and put their family in shambles once more. he just couldn't. but now he wishes he hadn't ignored her.. because only if had he not, she maybe would still be alive today.
