his father had been dispatched from the military when he was a child, but by no means did this mean he had a happy family soon afterwards. his father came home with post traumatic stress disorder, and it took its toll on yeosang's mother. she left a few days after his 7th birthday.
the single year that yeosang spent with his father was a nightmare. his father turned to alcohol to cope with his mental illness, and yeosang had to bear the brunt of his drunken outbursts. when his father was sober, he would instill the military discipline he learned on young yeosang, determined for the boy to experience exactly what he did as well.
yeosang was 8 when the outbreak tore the whole world apart. his father, being a military man, seemed more than prepared for the situation. together, they traveled the city. the young boy was forced to learn to survive, his father pushing his body past its limits to ensure he would stay alive. they had to find his mother, after all, and his father needed all the help he could get.
they never found her, but that was fine. to yeosang, she had died the day she decided to leave him with his father.
