hyuna was born in a low-income family and life simply being a struggle was an understatement. due to her parents being disabled because of the outbreak, she, unfortunately, had to be the moneymaker in her home. so, she quit school and worked in part-time jobs. the salary wasn't as good as she hoped, mainly because of the government's need to hoard rations affecting businesses, so she had to sacrifice her own hunger. though, sometimes she'd often steal from groceries for a meal every now and then; but that's beside the point. she was endlessly tired but she fought on to protect her family.
when news about the outbreak halved the population, she had a deep gut feeling that she needed some way to better their situation. she impulsively joined a group of people that promised a haven with rations and housing for all to use. with no other option, her family decided to be part of it. for a few months, it felt like normal but the restrictions made it awfully hard to have that peace of mind she was aching for. so she applied to be a scavenger, seeing that she had a bit of background in combat through her friend's self-defense program, she decided to help. but with that, came unwanted sympathy for those infected and the sudden realization of the city's plans.
it took her two years of enforcing the rules to finally notice this. when she did, she joined the rebels under the guise of 'dahlia'. with an added few years balancing her life as a scavenger in the day - mainly so her family could have a sustainable meal - and a rebel at night, she felt stressed.
the infected from ten years ago became a more enhanced version of themselves, the government announced through the speakers as her parents attacked her as soon as she got home. luckily, she got out of that situation unscathed though her heart sunk when she killed her parents, bringing them internal peace that they've deserved.
all she had to do now was run. from everything. with the guns that she packed from the rebels, she escaped into the night with nowhere to go. this time, surviving is her top priority and life would lead her to it. memories of her parents kept her strong. until she found herself back into society in a motel, seeking shelter and food.
hyuna used to be more uptight and strict. her situation made her the moodiest, feeling envious of those around her that flung their money without a bat of their eyelash. however, when the outbreak commenced, she had to mature up in order to protect her family.
in the shelter, she was quieter as she obeyed every order the government threw at her. although her family was safe, she still felt unhappy. that moment when she signed up for the rebels, however, gave her hope that something was going to change. despite so, it left her disappointed as the infected surprised the already small population by emerging with symptoms none were expecting.
now that she was away from the rebels, the city, and all walks of life; she fends for herself in hopes to find a cure. despite all that has happened, hyuna keeps a lighthearted manner. she's hyper, playful-even, but when it comes to serious topics she knows to bring that down to a minimum. she lives each day like it's the last because, realistically, it very much could be.

■ ex-lover. somebody that hyuna relied on. they met through the city and got together as soon as she voiced her beliefs. this person got her into being a rebel and, with her government resources, proved to be a beneficial part of the group. they've lost one another when the city fell but now rekindled their relationship as they're stranded in the motel.
■ close friend. someone that gave her back her laughter when all seemed depressing. they taught her to let go and to ease into the present; not the past or the future. around them, she felt relaxed and when she needed a shoulder to lean on, they were the first person hyuna would call. all ties to them cut as soon as the city fell apart that when they saw each other coincidentally on the way to the motel, hyuna can barely recognize them. trauma seemed to take the better of them.
■ brother. a close bonded relationship that hyuna had to give up. she thought he was a goner when her parents bit him but that wasn't the case at all. she left him there to save herself, only regretting afterwards after she gathered her thoughts. she kept her brother in mind as she tried to search for a cure, wherever that may be. her brother, however, might not share those pure intentions as he was left to rot.
