Above all else, it is about leaving a mark that I existed: I was here. I was hungry. I was defeated. I was happy. I was sad. I was in love. I was afraid. I was hopeful. I had an idea and I had a good purpose and that’s why I made works of art

She was born into a family of athletes, all reputable and well respected national representatives of various sports. Her grandparents were both national team badminton players, her uncle the head coach for the swimming national team, and her mother was once the star athlete of the national rhythmic gymnast team, young and well on her way to win her Olympics when a careless mistake with her then-boyfriend, current-ex-husband led to the downfall of her career. She got pregnant with Xiao, and as the result she was kicked off the national team due to rules breaking and lack of discipline. Fortunately, Xiao’s grandparents had been (very disappointed) generous enough to encourage Xiao’s mother to keep the baby, that what’s done is done and they should at least give the baby a proper family. So the young couple got married naturally and eventually, raising a baby on their own.
Xiao grew up knowing that she had a purpose to fulfil, which was to achieve her mother’s lifelong dream of winning an Olympics medal. If she was being totally honest, she would say she learnt how to stretch her limbs before she even learnt how to walk like any normal toddler. By the time she was old enough to walk, she was already attending basic gymnastic classes for young children, then a few years later, proper gymnastic and ballet schools. Similar to her mother, she had inherited the same talent the woman had. Xiao’s potential and talent had led to her being recruited into the country’s junior national team, training day and night with professional coaches who were all former national representatives, much to her mother’s delight. There wasn’t much freedom to Xiao’s life, attending a normal school was out of the question, all of their education were taken care inside the athlete town, and all her free time went into training and preparing for any possible competitions to gain experiences.
Everyone knew who she was, or who her mother was. That had given Xiao an advantage compared to the other young athletes her age, the head coach recognized her potential, and actively trained and promoted Xiao to be one of their aces. She was even sent to Russia with the rest of the team for further and more intense training. She stayed there for years, only returning to her home country twice a year for a few weeks each time, fully devoting her life to becoming a skilled athlete otherwise.
A few years later Xiao would find out that it was because that man apparently had been her mother’s personal coach, with her as his favorite student, and also that everything had been an arrangement between her mother and the coach. For Xiao’s future, they would say. Xiao was 19 when she was expected to join her first olympics, already having previous experiences joining youth olympics and won several medals. It made her mother and everyone else proud, It was also in that year when she overheard a conversation between her teammates and other coaches that her position as the ace and star athlete of the team was only given to her because of an arrangement between her mother and the head coach, and that they had been having an affair together all along. Shocked and horrified, Xiao had confronted her father, and if she was being frank, she wasn’t too surprised to hear about the divorce of her parents just a few months later.
Feeling nothing but absolute upset as anyone would when you find out that your life has been nothing but a lie that you’re living for someone else, Xiao made the ultimate decision to quit the national team, under early honorary retirement. Her decision shocked many, angered others especially her mother, but there was no turning back. Xiao stayed off the grid afterwards, rejecting any contact from her family and just spent her time travelling here and there, taking her time to figure out what she wants to do for the rest of her life. It was the most relaxing, yet the lowest point of her life.
For the first time in forever, she could do whatever she wanted without worrying about breaking rules, yet she had absolutely no idea what to do. Going back to school wasn’t exactly an option, considering she hadn’t been in an actual school for years and studying wasn’t something she wanted to do. It was as if she had no goals, no destination to her journey. That was when a random song she heard changed her life. It was ReNu. With that, thus began her fangirl life. Wanting to know more about the band, she did endless research on the internet and social media, learning as much as she could about the band and its members, finding comfort through their songs, their videos and mostly, the simple yet genuine feeling that they seemed to never fail to convey each time.
When that was no longer enough to her, she made the decision to travel to Seoul Korea and would soon settle down there for an indefinite time. She started to follow their schedule, and before she knew it she was already running a fansite, sharing her info and content with other fans, all of them bonding through their mutual love and appreciation for the band, and subsequently other groups that she also ended up setting up a fansite for. In her defense, she had nothing better to do and it wasn’t all for nothing, she discovered new hobbies like taking pictures and graphic designing, especially with how she would always design fanmade merch for her favorite groups, among a handful of other newfound interests.
now, Xiao basically is a full time fansite master, dividing her time between following the schedules of those on her stan list, hanging out with the few friends she has and always doing whatever she wants whenever she wants. Money is barely an issue for her, she has gotten enough retirement money when she quit the national team, and her fanmade merch is selling well enough for her to maintain her basic living wages. Everything she does is so that she could finally have a life of her own and actually enjoy it at her own pace, and she fully intends on keeping that up for as long as she can.
