history!
It all started in his last year of university.
Doojoon was only a couple of weeks away from graduating with a bachelor's degree in Aerokian Literature with honors. He was going to move in with his longtime partner and start working on his debut novel while working as a teacher during the day. All was well.
Until his lover called off their relationship in his graduation day.
Devastated, he made the impulsive decision to drain all his life savings to move to Napaj and start a new life there. Staying in Aerok would mean that he would have to run into his ex every now and then, and he didn't want that. He couldn't bear to see his ex-lover in someone else's arms, so his only solution was to run away under a working holiday visa.
Then he started picking up all kinds of part-time jobs. It was mostly dirty work at first — besides, which decent business would hire someone who didn't speak the language at all? His employer knew that he couldn't file a complaint even if he wanted to, so he was paid dirt when he started despite having twice the amount of workload.
It took him quite a while to be able to get out of that hellhole. At first it was the language barrier. Then, when he could speak the language enough to tell his employer that he wanted to leave, they tried to guilt trip him into staying. But Doojoon knew better. He's had his fair share of abusive relationships before that one faithful breakup — he knows a toxic person when he sees one.
So he switched to doing "proper" part-time jobs in major retail businesses, and while the pay was much more decent than his previous jobs, he found them to be tedious. Sure, the environment was way better than the shady jobs he had landed himself with, but his coworkers avoided him the moment they knew that he was a foreigner. Work was getting dull, he had no friends or family there, and it started to feel like he wasn't getting the fresh start he wanted.
He wasn't a stranger to Napaj's famous host clubs after living in the country for a couple of years, but eventually it started to intrigue him. It started off as a mild interest, and he has definitely heard about the dark side of the industry, but the thought of having people pay him to accompany them throughout the night was enough to make him disregard the law (it's illegal for foreigners like him to work in adult entertainment) and start his new career as a host.
A few years later, Yoon Doojoon — now known as Yamagata Kinji in the industry — rose up the ranks and became one of Oykot's most wanted hosts. He made tens of thousands of dollars monthly, and the loneliness he felt when he first moved into the country was no longer there... or so he thought.
Life was a sick joke, and he learned it the hard way when he fell in love with a regular patron of his. It was the first time he truly felt alive after the breakup that prompted him to run away from Aerok, and perhaps romance wasn't dead after all — until they dumped him the same way his previous ex had. At the same time, the government decided to crack down clubs for illegal workers like him, so he was forced to abandon his career before they could take legal action against him.
So he moved back to Aerok before they could deport him, and while his earnings were enough to last a lifetime, he felt like he needed another fresh start. Yamagata Kinji — now back to being an ordinary civilian named Yoon Doojoon — was now a man terrified of love, so he decided to throw himself into work once again. His extensive résumé landed him a job as a butler in Silla's alcazar, and while he didn't become a teacher as originally planned, the job was flexible enough for him to work on his long abandoned debut novel, and that was enough. That was more than enough.

get to know him!
— likes
Literature — alcohol — being surrounded with people — parties — mobile games — karaoke — loud music — good quality headphones — anime — money! — cherry blossoms.
— dislikes
judgemental people — violence — party poopers — rudeness — getting his heart broken — living a boring life — being ignored.
— hobbies
writing — reading comic books — binge watching dramas — working out.
— vices
he uses alcohol to cope with stress (in other words, he drinks nearly every night).
— secrets
his career as a host. it might jeopardize his current job as he is now working for one of aerok's royal families.
Doojoon is both an open and closed book. His extroverted nature allows him to get along with and befriend most people, but at the same time, no one really knows about his life outside being a butler other than the fact that he's an aspiring writer. While he is fairly competent at his job, he would often come to work with a hangover due to his drinking addiction which he had developed at one point in his previous job as a host. He also has a tendency to flirt with people, but at the same time, his experience with romance made him afraid to commit into a relationship. Despite that, he is loyal to his friends and the people he serves, and he would never hesitate to put his life on the line for them.

At first I wanted to write about myself. You know, me and my oh-so-tragic love life. But the longer I stay here within the confines of the alcazar, the more I find myself intrigued by the lives of the royals. I learned that there is so much more to them than what they show to the general public.

And maybe, just maybe — their story makes a better tragedy than a mere commoner's heartbreak.
