trigger
warning
suicide
Being a seraphim was hard, especially when your “father” disappeared from heaven, and everyone else suddenly thinks they’re in charge. Heaven was in shambles when God decided it was time for a vacation, and unfortunately for them. They weren’t so great at getting along, they definitely had a huge problem with the superiority complex. Not before long, they were all making alliances and groups as if they were humans in high school. Wanting see how it would play out, he joined one too and he thought nothing at first when their “leader” would ask him to use his abilities to find a human that was possibly committing a sin. Then they’d go after them. And at first, they would let them go with a little warning, nothing too severe. But it didn’t stay like that for long, eventually they got bored of that and wanted to actually hurt the humans.

“Why do you care so much?”

“Our father wouldn’t want us doing this.”

“He should’ve been here.”

He couldn’t blame them for thinking like that. God did up and leave without a word, not that he owed them one. But at least they wouldn’t be running around like headless chickens. Of course, he could be testing them. He liked conducting tests, almost as if he was a mad scientist but somehow everything always worked out in his favor—mostly. “And with your power, we can do this much easier.” The other angel pushed, and Michaelis tsked, raising his piercing violet eyes to meet the others “Whatever. I’m leaving.” He grumbled, teleporting himself down to earth. Michaelis couldn’t bare to do something like that, he refused to find humans for them to toy with like that. So he left heaven, finding witches to help him cast spells to hide himself away from heaven and other angels. With his ability to heal, he easily sneaked himself into a job at a hospital in the small town he moved into.

He enjoyed leaving amongst the humans. Of course, he had to learn how to control his powers around them. Lucky for him it didn’t take long and he was getting along with his co workers, everything was going okay for him and he was content. And then he met him, he’d never seen him before but then again he’d never worked this floor before. He was probably around eighteen or nineteen years old, sitting in bed as he stared out the window. Intrigued, he would go by the room even when he didn’t a shift on that floor, waiting to find out everything before he approached.

He was terminally ill. Something the doctors couldn’t seem to cure. Apparently, the patient didn’t talk to anyone or even seemed interested in anything; except maybe reading the books that lined the bookshelf in the room. That seemed to pique Michaelis’s interest even more though, approaching the patient with caution one day. “Hey, neat collection of books you have here.” He wasn’t surprised when he got ignored, instead continuing to talk even though he wasn’t a getting a response back, “I was wondering if I could come to read them sometime?” His violet eyes traveled to the male sitting on the bed, disinterested eyes aimed at the tv. It made Michaelis smile, leaving the room a few minute later but only to return the next day on his break. This time however, he greeted the other and immediately bounded over to the bookshelf to pluck a book from it, and plopped down in the little couch in the room to read.

His days continued like this, lunch time he’d spend in the other males room, reading a book and complained if something didn’t go his way, or talked excitedly about what he liked. The other still didn’t give him a response or a reaction, but he didn’t let that deter him, no matter how many of his coworkers were telling him to just give up already. And eventually, it paid off. One night he decided to do double shifts, which lasted until the next morning, where his usual shifts started at 9 am and he would be on his way home by 6 pm. He knew that if he left the hospital there was no way he would wake up in time to show up for lunch, so he decided breakfast would just have to do. He tiredly made his way to the patients room, picked up the book he was on and slumped in the chair. Before he knew it, he was out cold.

Stirring slightly by the sudden presence of someone above him, Michaelis opened his eyes and moved them up slowly to meet the person standing above him. They stared at each other for a moment, Michaelis singing a victory tune in his head as the other male retreated with embarrassment shining through his irises. “You dropped this. Taking care of my books is the least you can do if you’re just going to come in here and read.” Was all he said, pushing the book into Michaelis’s arms before he was staggering back to the bed. The seraph smiled and went home pretty ecstatic that day, and he did manage to forget to eat breakfast. Their interactions and bond grew more after that. Michaelis would sit closer to the bed, he would sometimes read out loud or just simply talked about books he already read, this time he got responses. No matter how curt and short they tend to be. He would even bring the patient a few books out of his own collection at home. They would spend time out in the garden on days where the make was strong enough and the wind didn’t blow too heavy, Michaelis liked those days mostly because he could listen to the male talk about flowers and nature forever.

He had considered curing the male himself. But he wasn’t sure if he should, after all he’d never cured anything terminal before. But it kind of upset him when he would see the male get so sick that nurses had rush in just do make sure he was stable. He couldn’t walk pr stand for a very long time, his skin was so pale almost like he was already dead. And he only did wounds that were visible to the eye. Kind of like he was doing now, the male had accidentally cut himself because of how fragile his skin was and Michaelis immediately wasted no time to grab his hand; ready to heal.

“Stop.”

He paused, looking up frantically at the other male. “I don’t want you to heal me. I see the way you look at me. It’s not your fault I’m sick. Please don’t place that burden on yourself.” The male was serious, the angel could tell just by the tone of his voice, “one day, you’ll meet someone who actually wants to be saved.”With a sigh, he nodded and withdrew his hands, reaching for antiseptic wipes and bandaids instead. “If you really want to help, you can always get me something for my birthday.” And with that, Michaelis’s mood immediately changed. He was determined to get the male something great, something that would definitely remember that birthday forever.

He decided to surprise the male with a dog, just because he knew how much he liked them. As the day got closer and closer, something changed in the male and Michaelis should’ve looked more deeper into it. But he brushed it off as nothing, refusing to think anything about it. That day when he arrived at the hospital, he could immediately tell something was wrong. All his coworkers gave him sad and pitying looks as he made his way up to the floor, the box clutched gently in his arms. Calmly, he made his way towards the room and paused outside the door, eyes slowly filling with tears as the empty room stared back at him. Michaelis never knew what heartbreak was until that moment. He didn’t even know it would hurt that bad.

Suicide, that’s what his death was ruled under. Michaelis, kept the dog and quit his job at the hospital, deciding to move to the city a few months after. Few years go by and now he’s a florist, working with flowers because they remind him of him. And working part time as a nurse in an animal clinic, still hiding from heaven and angels deliberately looking for him.
