"I believe that words uttered in passion contain a greater living truth than do those words which express thoughts rationally conceived. It is blood that moves the body. Words are not meant to stir the air only: they are capable of moving greater things."
— Soseki Natsume

Born and raised in Boseong County, little Jina thought that her life was planned out for her. Her parents were simple people, wishing for their young daughter to take after the family business and help with the production of green tea, which their district was so famous for. As a child, there was nothing that truly caught her interest — studying was boring, or so it seemed, and no matter how hard she worked to stay at the top of her class to make her parents proud, it seemed that nothing could cease this boredom that seemed to grow everyday.

Well, there was one thing, though — music.

Jina had her first taste of music in elementary school, during a choir class that she oh-so enthusiastically participated in. Her voice was louder than all the rest, and what she lacked in skill, she made up for in enthusiasm. Naturally, her teacher invited her to join the choir, and from there, Jina began to find her love in music.

She was a natural, or so it seemed, and her mother and father adored their precious baby's singing. With the support of all the kindly adults around her, Jina worked her hardest to win the hearts of her whole village, often being tapped by adults to perform for their little events. Little Jina loved the attention, and she wondered, how can I be a better singer?

That was when she first picked up the guitar. By no means was she a prodigy, but she was a hardworker — and soon after picking up her first guitar, she was able to create beautiful melodies accompanied with simple lyrics about her mundane life in Boseong. Everyone was charmed by her unique voice and quaint lyrics, and so, she continued her music-making journey. First it was voice, then guitar, then piano, then violin — it seemed that every instrument Jina touched, she was determined to make it hers. Little Jina spent years studying and playing music — so much so that her parents often had to scold her for neglecting her studies. But out of her love for music, she prevailed, and moved on to high school.

It was during a birthday party that she was found by a tourist from Seoul, who claimed to be part of an entertainment agency promoting solo artists. At first, Jina was skeptical, but after doing her research and discovering that the business was legitimate, she grew more and more excited. Her parents were hesitant to let this strange man take their daughter to Seoul as a trainee, but Jina's passion was unquestionable. Eventually, they let her travel, pride and sadness in their eyes as they watched their little girl grow into the musician she always wanted to be.

Attending a high school in Seoul and simultaneously working with the label to train herself, Jina was incredibly homesick as she adjusted to city life. But her parents remained supportive, and it was with their support that Jina managed to put out her first single. Most of the songs were written by the company's workers, but there was one song that stood out among the rest — the one she composed, a song about lazy school days spent sleeping in class and passing secret notes to friends.

It was this simple, childish charm that won the hearts of many — but not just in Seoul, no. The more of her own music she released, the more popular she became — and before she knew it, simple little Jina received an offer to promote in America, right after she graduated high school.

Well, who was she to refuse?

Today, Jina struggles with adapting to life in a foreign country, and many of her songs reflect the simple pleasures of the home she misses so much. She's an up and coming star, so who knows how big she'll get? Who knows how far she'll go?

Honestly? It's really weird to me. I somehow still can't believe that all these people listen to my music, much less like it! But I'm grateful, of course. More than just that. I never even dared to dream of going as far as this, yet here I am! It's all thanks to my parents, and to the people that listen to my music. It's from the bottom of my heart when I say I love you all and I am so, so incredibly grateful and blessed.
