hyeok's parents did not and do not have as simple a life as he does. they were powerful high elves related to the king, but they abused their position to facilitate underhanded deals. they were involved in the underground and had their fingers in all sorts of illegal sh*t. when the king found out, he ordered their execution and they ran with hyeok, a little baby, in their arms. they suspect the king let them escape due to their young child - but they will not risk stepping onto the mainland ever again.
today they work remotely with various high-brow corporations, assisting them with financial fraud and the logistics of illegal trafficking. as far as hyeok knows, they are simple business consultants and he believes it.
