people aren't limited to only one existence; a different me from yesterday gives a different answer today - if no is yes, then yes is no? It all depends on my mood. i'm certain there's more "me's" that i've yet to know...
maybe you and "you" and all of us can no longer remain innocent.

In a small rural Korean magic community’s village, a boy named Choi Minjun was born. His existence was just - peculiar, to say the least. Born to two powerful wizards who’s love story was already peculiar enough.. His parents, Choi Seohee and Sean Ironwood (or Im Sihyun, depending on who you talk to) really had no business meeting. One was a witch who grew more powerful and reckless than the people who had homeschooled her, people always looking at her anxiously due to her habit of doing the most she can do just before it would end as trouble with the Ministry - and the other was one of the highest-scoring students to recently come out of Ilvermorny, who was always complimented by the faculty due to his strong performance, but also his obedient and careful nature. In summation, Seohee was feared or disliked while Sean was admired or liked.

(“Opposites attract, I guess. Your mother’s so beautiful too, the first time I saw her, I almost thought she was half-veela..” His father says once after asked why he liked Seohee so much. Minjun stares him down blankly. All this trouble for reasons like that?)

Ever since he was young, Minjun began to grow used to what is the unexpected child of such a couple comes with. The mixed gazes he’d always get - either one of strong expectations and interest or ones of disappointment and detest. He didn’t like either very much, but he’d play up to them if needed. Become someone who’s so strong and accomplished all their expectations look tiny to what he actually is, or become someone so reckless and on the line that his magic is branded as being dangerous. Or perhaps both. Hopefully neither would be needed, and Minjun could just be himself. (Although he knew all too well this would never be the case.)

Outside of the weird looks, life was fine to him. An upside to being in such a small, isolated magical community was that everyone would be practicing their magic without hiding. So naturally, Minjun’s magic skills began to be cultivated from a young age. He learnt quicker than anyone expected, a natural from the start. Some of those expectations only got more intense after seeing the small boy’s first attempts at magic, and fewer people seemed to pay him mind in a negative way. It probably helped that his parents oft left him alone, so he could be seen as just Choi Minjun, even for a few hours. Helped even more than his mother was even more spotty with her appearances than his father, so no matter how bad her reputation got, it seemed to only affect her. Just Choi Seohee was questionable to the residents, not her child.

That was until she crossed the line. Everyone knew of Seohee’s scarily independent ways and her ruthless search for new information and knowledge - especially for the sorts of things and applications that string off of forbidden texts and to many people, were seen as possible new dark magic. That was the reason everyone was always afraid of her and hated her- she was just seen as a ticking time bomb, ticking down to the moment where she would use all of this specific knowledge to try and destroy the whole world, or any other ridiculously huge-scaled dark witch-like goal. After all, there was no way someone as knowledgeable as she would settle for something simple. The accident that marked the first explosion, however, was not with some out of this world invention, or the results of all of her line-edging research. It was the usage of forbidden curses. Multiple times, against Korean Ministry members. Apparently, a task force was assigned to rid Seohee of all of her research due to the danger it could cause - she did not take such a threat lightly and eradicated them all instead.

From then on, there was no going back. All those gazes that had been warming up to him, about to see Minjun as just himself.. they were all cold, distant, inflicted with fear or hate because if the person who birthed him would do such heinous things, what stopped him from being just like her?

His father who had been gone for days had rushed back once the news hit, saying that they needed to leave. Korea was not going to be a welcoming environment for them anymore, and so they left for the next closest place - Japan.

In Japan, Minjun became old enough to attend a wizarding school, so he did just that. He spent 2 years in Mahoutokoro, enhancing those magic skills he had already been practicing long ago. He liked those years a lot - everyone was separate from their parents, so for once, he fully was just himself. The individuality, the chance to paint out just how everyone would think of him - he liked it. And most of all, he liked the envy. People who would envy him for simple reasons such as picking up spells quicker, or getting better marks. People who would never envy him if they knew the whole picture. If they knew what went on in his mind. But that was fun in of itself- creating an image of himself which had a background just like everyone else.

However, good things don’t last long. Japan was a bit too close to a getaway. The more his mom did, the longer she managed to stay off-grid, the more desperate the search for her got. To the point that there were rumours spreading to Japan about the event, and about how the Ministry might be looking for Minjun and his father too, as possible accomplices. Being accused of being on the side of someone who killed any country’s Ministry members… there was no coming back from that, socially. And they were going to be found quickly if word had got to them like this, his father said.

And so events happened all over once again. This time, his father took them to America and Minjun joined the ranks of his father’s former school, Ilvermory. He definitely disliked that place compared to Mahoutokoro. His father was too young, he remembers thinking because way too many teachers seemed to have the most vivid memories of him as if he graduated yesterday. Being compared was annoying, to say the least. However, it was yet another fuel to his competitive spirit. He wanted to blow their expectations based on his father out of the water, to be better than his father ever was. Honestly, he would never want to become a man like his father after all. Even if all the wizards who knew him seemed to love him-- Minjun did not harbour any similar feelings. After all, if that event had never occurred, he’d probably still be sitting in their small house in Korea alone. Surrounded by everyone else- yet alone.

Then came a holiday break, when he had chosen to return “home” for once, and saw his father.. packing up things again. At this point, Minjun was fed up. It’s not like Minjun hated exploring multiple countries or something like that - on the contrary, he liked it. But for once, he wanted to do it on his own terms. Having to run over and over because of a selfish person who committed a CRIME, someone that he would be disgusted to associate himself with now after all the hassle and pain she’s caused for them… He was just more than tired at that point. Staying somewhere, for once, sounded like a better option.

(“Why are we leaving? It’s not like we did anything wrong.”

“It’s better this way.”

“How?”

“If we’re out of their sights, they’ll spend more time searching for us, okay? And the more time they spend searching for us, the less time they have to look for Seohee. I’m sure your mother has a plan, if we keep buying her time, she’ll come back to us and fix this--”

“You’re kidding me, right? Do you think that selfish would put herself and her life’s work at risk for you or me? I thought you were just scared of the social falling out that happened each time. But I guess they weren’t unfounded in thinking we could be accomplices. Because that’s all you’re doing. Buying time for a murderer. And wasting my time in that process.”

“That’s your mother you’re talking about! Learn some respect! What do you even want to do then, huh?”

“Have an actual life of my own, of course.”

“Fine. I’ll erase you out of Seohee’s family and stick you somewhere else. You don’t deserve her- or me. Not after this.”)

The next day, he was on a flight to England. Having to move once again to stop moving was irritating to him once again, but there was some sort of pleasure in knowing this should be the last. If he were to pack up everything and leave again, it would be on his schedule.

Once he arrived, he was introduced to his new “family”. They were some English cousins or something like that of Sean’s, Minjun didn’t care enough to clarify the details. All that mattered was that he had a house to be in until his transfer to Hogwarts was confirmed. All Minjun had to do until that moment was adapt, and carve this new life of his. And Minjun’s good at adapting, so he threw out his previous self. From that day on, his name was to be Daniel Ironwood (he hated the fact that he still had that guy’s family name, but it was better than the one that linked him to Seohee), and he was just some kid they adopted a few years back. No blood relations at all, of course. They homeschooled him for a while and now realized his magic was up to level to let him attend Hogwarts like his “siblings” already did. Not like he’d let anyone get that deep into his background, but Daniel knows it's best to have all of his bases covered. The only knowledge from his past that mattered was the magic knowledge, and everything else would just be swept under the rug.

And so he did just that. Daniel Ironwood went to Hogwarts, and like at his previous schools, excelled - and this time, with no chance those rumours would taint him again. Daniel’s just another Slytherin- charming, yet ruthlessly competitive. He lets himself get drunk off of other’s envy and the praises handed to him, he figures he deserves it for all of his hard work. Whether it was his effort towards school, his effort towards burying his past self or just getting to this part of his life - which is now his third year of Hogwarts university. Finally a long stable part of his life for once. Now, all he can hope is that he can keep it up. Keep doing well for himself, keep excelling and finally, reach his goals once it's all over. Those goals that keep him striving so hard, however… those are unclear. Even to himself.

Personality
Daniel is one of the most ambitious people one could ever meet. He’s never satisfied with where he is, and always wants to go higher and higher. On top of that, he can’t stand losing to people. That never-fading strong competitiveness combined with his confidence causes a lot of problems for him, but he can control himself in regular scenarios. Daniel is amiable most of the time, usually having some group of “friends” around him. He’s the type to have more people think they’re close with him, than the amount of people he actually thinks are his friends (which is usually sitting at 0). While he prioritizes himself like most Slytherin, he does have a very helpful streak. His motto is that he’ll help if it doesn’t hurt himself. Although, his standards for “hurting himself” are always loose and fluctuating. The boy does have a severe on and off switch problem, though. Daniel is the on part- basks in attention, energetic, competitive and somewhat giving- while Minjun is the off part- a true loner, quiet, determined without showing it, and coldly independent. There have been many times where those “friends’ got worried about Daniel because he went off the grid for a few days. That’s Minjun’s specialty - disappearing in plain sight, and then leaving for some secluded location. The only being that Minjun doesn’t mind being around is his cat, Umbra. Minjun doesn’t really like people’s attention, especially not the expectations they have. He prefers this over the past though - at least these burdens are because of himself, and not other people. Daniel gets himself so busy that he has no time to think - Minjun will create time anywhere to introspect on everything until that point. When Minjun is in his moods, no other people matter. Actually, he wishes they would all disappear. The world could burn that moment, and leave him and Umbra all alone - he wouldn’t be happier. It’s a dramatic shift in moods, so he tries to control it very much - especially because he was supposed to leave all of that “Minjun” buried in his past. But it comes out after certain scenarios, maybe because it is his true personality after all. Or maybe the true personality of the boy is hidden somewhere in between, in the middle of the switch that can never be maintained for more than a second.

facts

he's great at picking up languages, and can speak korean, english and japanese fluently, and languages of the other places he's been decently enough - although he hides this. he's an expert of sudden disappearances. his "family" made fun of his American english accent so he made an effort to exchange it with a more British sounding one, but right now all he's achieved is a half and half where some words sound more British and some sound more American. a total perfectionist, which is part of the reason he's a top student. (also helps that he has a natural penchant for it.), took a gap year before starting university in where he travelled all over the world.
