chan was just a child. his life was immediately overwhelmed with news articles, scandals, exposes, paparazzi following his every move even as a young child. bang chan, the only son of harold bang, a well-known actor turned entertainment ceo, and jessica bang, a controversial model from a very wealthy american-korean family. with the big names of his parents, it's almost impossible to escape the eyes that followed their every move. with jessica's marriage to harold bang already causing quite the noise, it didn't help that just before the actual wedding was held, chan was born. the difference in 'family status' made their wedding a interesting topic to talk about, and of course, it was to change their son's life in an instant. being compared to jessica all his life as her husband, harold has developed constant insecurity towards his own wife. harold begun placing his own expectations on himself to his son that resembled him more than his wife. with an absent mother who is a pillar of the fashion industry of korea, bang chan had no choice to but to follow the path his father bulldozed for him. raised to keep his head high, he was sent to every single academy to learn all that he can. his childhood was filled with different classes for different skills and as every child would, he soon found it suffocating. bang chan was only a child and instead of receiving love from his own parents, he only ever received expectations, demands and requests. he was hard-wired to hold up the family name, and not be a disappointment to his own parents.going against his mother's wishes meant receiving a look of disgust and a condescending lectures. meanwhile, going against his father's expectations meant being hit and being locked up until the bruises are no longer visible. of course he cannot go out looking beat up, right? not when his every move is recorded by the media. with the abuse completely messing up with his head, bang chan has developed an obsessive desire to excel in everything. he just doesn't want to get hurt anymore. thus, he filled himself with the drive of being great at everything.

during this really difficult time in his life, the relief that soothed him was swimming. among everything he learned at such a young age, swimming made him feel peaceful. chan stripped himself off of the pressure and burden every time he's in the water. and along with that, a personal desire to be good at it grew. just as he thought that his parents' wouldn't ever have a hand at his swimming career, bang chan then competes on his biggest swimming meet. he bags the gold medal and for the first time in his life, boosting his confidence on himself. there's something he has for himself without the force and pressure his parents gave to him. something that is truly his own. however, reality definitely was something else. the media buzzed at the alleged controversy of the results being rigged. people has begun to question the integrity of the results saying that the silver medalist should've been the winner. of course everything has been swept under the carpet, who are we talking about? it was the bangs'. "what can you do on your own without my help?" his father's words echoed in head like a nightmare. and before he knew it, he has succumbed to his family's wishes once again, attending halcyon to uphold their family honor.
