You see, Acacia was not always the tough, no-nonsense resistance leader that she is today. Before the thought had even crossed her mind to take up arms against the wealthy elite, to attack the source of fuel of an entire collection of kingdoms, she was merely a halfblood living in a predominantly fairy community within the forest.
Originally hailing from the Kingdom of Aeris, the half-elf, half-fairy had a pretty tame upbringing. The small but densely populated village in which she lived was very tight-knit and cared for each other deeply. Her own family was rather sizable, a patchwork quilt of elves, fairies and other halfbloods just like her. Community gatherings were frequent, at least once every month, and full of food, drink and merriment. There was dancing and singing and music and fun — it was a laidback and content lifestyle.
[ tw: death (including children, eldery) ]
That all changed when their small section of forest was attacked by a group of mercenaries and subsequently burnt to the ground. The ambush was quick and sudden, they had no time to prepare for it. Acacia can still remember the screams as the villagers closest to the edges were skewered on blood-stained swords. The killing was indiscriminant, no one, not even the eldery or the children was to be spared. Those who were not already dead fought back, and they fought hard and fierce. But it wasn't enough. Acacia and her people were not fighters. They were soft, like ripe peaches, only accustomed to tending to the forest and participating in festivities. Acacia herself attempted to drive the mercenaries away by calling upon the spirit of her home, the forest in which she had dwelled all her life.
But then came the fire.
Acacia was badly burned as the mercenaries began to set the trees and crops ablaze. Try as she might she could not stop all of them, let alone even one. It was only because of the desperate calls of her family that Acacia was able to separate herself from the chaos and follow them into escaping.
For days they journeyed through and out of the forest, far away enough to ensure that the mercenaries would not find them. Far away enough that Acacia could not longer see what used to be her home.
Ever since that terrible day Acacia had felt the fire that had burnt her home within her newly damaged soul; a blazing pyre that caled for revenge. Once the halfblood was fully healed she set out to find the group of mercenaries that destroyed much of her life, against the wishes of her remaining family. Acacia found them after several weeks of intense searching and tortured them for the information she wanted. It turned out that the group had been hired by a well-off businessman from another kingdom who sought to use the forest for financial gain; instead of bartering with the elves and fairies, he simply decided to drive them away, and if that didn't work, they were to be killed.
Acacia grew enraged the more she learned as she followed the smoking trail back to the highest authority for that particular incident. She had never known that people could be so greedy for more, so envious of others — panting like wolves in heat for the glittering gold of endless wealth. It made her sick.
By the time Acacia Rainstrum had fully taken her revenge she realized that she had been forever changed. She was no longer the same easy-going halfblood that she had once been; before the carnage, before the fire. In the end she decided not to return to her family. She keeps in contact with them when she can, but she is both too ashamed to show her face, and too determined now to fight against the machine that seems so dead set on killing those that user to be just like her:
Normal people, civilians, those who cannot fight back against the heavy hammer of the corrupt.
Fifteen years ago Acacia founded her resistance group. They don't have an official name, but depending on who you're asking they are known by many unofficial titles: The Black Sheep Guild, a pain in the , that group led by That Crazy , The Vengeful Seven, a minor pest, etc. etc. The list goes on. No matter how they are known Acacia wants to make one thing very clear.
They are here to stand up for the people. They will not back down. They won't give up in the face of opposition. Acacia cares for her people, her family shared by blood and her family forged in blood. She cares for those who cannot protect themselves. She is dedicated, and strong; she will be the one to give these people arms, and take a stance against those who wish to grind them into dust.
◈ Since all of Acacia's powers come from her connection to nature they do not work as well when she is large cities, underground bunkers, cargo ships, etc. Basically, any place with a lack of nature/earth makes it harder for her to use her abilities. If there is zero (0) nature/earth present she can only use weapons and hand-to-hand combat to attack others and defend herself.
◈ Although Acacia has not physically been in the presence of her family for quite some time, she is still a deeply devoted family person at heart. She cares for them extremely and is fiercely loyal and protective of both family and friends that she cares about. Her people are her people. Because of this, they can be used against her in the right scenarios. Currently, her main familial weakness is her younger brother who has sought her out and decided to join her resistance group against her wishes.
◈ Acacia is usually able to keep a level head about things. It's what she needs to do in order to remain a skilled and respectable leader to her team. However, in the right circumstances, with the right push, she can be driven into a rage that makes her more reckless and emotional, which can sometimes be bad for her as it makes her unaware of certain things around her. However, for her enemies, this also makes her much more unpredictable, and far more likely to kill them dead instead of spare them for ransom or information.
Description
notes ;
+ acacia has a younger brother (can be full elf, full fairy or a halfblood elf/fairy). the idea is that this younger brother decided to find acacia himself after she did not return to their family's new home after completing her self-given mission. upon finding her he decides to join her cause, which acacia is very much against because she does not want him to have the same blood on his hands that she has. she cannot just send him back to their family now that war is brewing though, so she keeps a close eye on him in the compound where her resistance group operates. she is very protective of him and also shows tough love. the younger brother would be anywhere between 20-70 years old.
+ possible connections: the brother mentioned above // a member of her resistance group that acacia saved from a slave auction and decided to join her cause // one of the mercenaries from the mission that burned her home and somehow managed to get away during her bloody crusade // a member of her resistance group that is actually a double agent working for either a rich person or one of the four kingdoms intending to gain intel on the resistance
