Cause of death: He was rescued from the circus by a boy who fell in love with him and wanted to play hero. Unfortunately, the boy was an idiot and dumped Yuga (a saltwater octopus) into a lake (sweetwater).

He arrived here LONG before anyone else appeared, and immediately noticed here he can survive in sweetwater just fine. He hasn't left the lake once since his arrival. The playful God who made this place watched him for a few weeks, but then, growing bored, approached him. Since Yuga and the God have had a few chats, and eventually the God started bringing in more people. That is how the "first", Wen Fan, arrived.

Meanwhile, Yuga still lives quietly in the lake, actively avoiding the other arrivals and enjoying his daily swims.

He's not going to make the mistake of swimming too close to the surface again.

Description
yuga.
yuga.
I DON'T KNOW IF I'M STUPID OR BRAVE.
I JUST am.

A WORLD IN BLACK AND WHITE.

"how disgusting, normal merfolk are much prettier aren't they?"

"look, it moved! do you think it can understand us?"

"now that would be a great centrepiece for the lounge."

"how cute! it's like a puppy or something- let's give it another fish."

Once upon a time, Yuga had a sense of self, a family, friends, pasttimes. Once upon a time, he would swim out into the deep, cold ocean with his squid friends and come back with tales to tell his octopus friends. He was brave, adventurous and enjoyed the hunt more than the kill. He would laugh at his friends' jokes, mourn their deaths and care for their children. The first time he came up to the surface everything changed. No near death below water came close to the level of fear he was introduced to on that trawler.

Yuga lives in a tank, accompanied by a few decorative rocks he occasionally hides under. His days are spent running his long arms over the smooth glass surface searching for nonexistant bumps and cracks. The tank protects him from the outside he cannot survive in, and, at the same time, isolates him from the strange world around him. Each day the loneliness eats at him and each breath becomes harder to draw. He used to think about dying, but he's too scared to die and so, he draws another breath, smiles another smile at the faces staring at him. He doesn't want to die and he doesn't want to be hurt anymore. Is that greed? Or cowardice? He will smile and wriggle, act cute and shy as much as you want, as long as you stop hurting him.
