Yoo Roxas, (birthname: Ryeowook) was Born and raised in South Korea. he had the opportunity to experience both Korean and American cultures through visits to his American side of the family (his mother's family) during summers. This exposure to different cultures at a young age broadened his worldview and allowed him to observe the world from diverse perspectives.

At the age of 13, Roxas faced a significant change when he had to live with his grandfather in Namwon, a rural city in the North Jeolla Province of South Korea. His parents had business commitments in the United States, leaving Roxas to adjust to life in the countryside. Initially hesitant about leaving behind the bustling city life of Seoul, Roxas's love for his grandfather motivated him to adapt to his new environment until his parents returned.

During his three years in Namwon, Roxas immersed himself in learning new skills and appreciating the simplicity of rural life. Every day spent with his grandfather was a lesson in craftsmanship and tradition. Roxas vividly remembers how his grandfather would patiently explain the significance of each architectural element in a hanok, from the curved lines of the roof to the placement of windows and doors. His grandfather's expertise extended beyond mere construction; he instilled in Roxas a deep appreciation for the cultural and historical significance of hanoks as symbols of Korean heritage and identity.

Whether it was observing his grandfather's craftsmanship in building hanoks or watching him create small bouquets to sell to the locals, Roxas found beauty in these experiences. Inspired by his grandfather's dedication and passion for his craft, Roxas developed a deep appreciation the importance of creating meaningful structures, both physically and metaphorically.

As Roxas left Namwon, he carried with him not only memories of his time spent with his grandfather but also a sense of purpose and inspiration to create art that reflects the beauty and harmony found in nature and traditional Korean culture. His journey serves as a testament to the transformative power of familial bonds and the influence of one's environment on shaping one's identity and aesthetic preferences.
