Privileged and pampered, Amagi Yuko is a living princess in her own fairytale life. But what people don't realize is that behind the scenes, she struggles under the weight of public scrutiny and unyielding expectations. As the only child of one of Japan's most powerful corporate giant, there are eyes and ears planted everywhere she goes: her own home, her school, her family, her friends. Money, they say, cannot buy happiness. That's a lie. Money can indeed buy a sense of happiness; money can accomplish almost anything. Even murder. At age eight, a horrific car accident steals both her mother and her vision. No longer a perfect doll, Amagi Yuko is nothing more than a prisoner, made an invalid by both her overprotective father and the poisonous public. Half-blind tragedy is what they all call her. For Yuko was fortunate enough to have survived an accident that killed four others and because the Gods had mercy.

Yuko suffers from cortical visual impairment (also referred to as cortical blindness), although, she is not completely blind. She is capable of distinguishing light and dark and her pupils do in fact dilate and contract to light exposure. However, like many other individuals with cortical blindness, Yuko cannot properly identify things if questioned and will be not able to provide excessive details other than color and general shape. Because of this, her greatest weakness is her visual impairment. She exhibits variable vision, which can fluctuate from day to day (or even from minute to minute), especially if she's tired. Because of this, she carries a foldable white cane as a precaution. Though, she has taken to using Ryu as her guide and relies heavily on him for direction.

Yuko's depth perception and field of view can be severely limited and this makes her an extremely weak and easy target. She is often underestimated and, thus, can trick people into believing she is blind and incapable of detecting and tracking movement. To compensate for her rather obvious weakness, she utilizes an enhanced form of blindsight in order to protect herself from impending danger. Though, if someone is to observe her closely, they may note that her blindsight does not work 100% of the time. Her impairment forces her to identify and distinguish people by both touch and voice. Yuko possesses exceptional hearing and she believes it is her biggest strength as it allows her to detect the slightest noises. Also, her small stature and agile movements paired with dancer's flexibility allows her to maneuver in and out of small spaces with relative ease. What she lacks in physical strength and technique, she makes up for in defense, support, and critical analysis. Allied with Saito Ryu, the two make a formidable pair.

Yuko is not a fighter in the most traditional sense of the word. She does not promote any form of violence and believes that peace is attainable if unity can be established. Such naivete can be utilized by an enemy as she is rather trusting and wishes to help others. However, beneath her seemingly quiet and optimistic facade lies a dark wish to be dead. The BR Program, she thinks, is a blessing in disguise for someone like her and she hopes by the end of it that she'd be in a better place — free and at peace. This desire, though, is often thwarted by a bodyguard in the form of one Saito Ryu.
