background
Renzou Yuuta grew up in a single parent household. His father, Renzou Rinnosuke, & mother Izuki Yukiko, are divorced. He has an identical twin, Renzou Yuuto & an elder sister and mother he's never met.
Rinnosuke, was a very famous & successful actor. He was well known throughout the country & flithy rich. Behind his personality on the television, he was an materialistic, arrogant, over confident, greedy man. He was biased to Yuuto and paid no attention to Yuuta. Or if he did, it was negative. Mocking, insulting, unloving. He often hit Yuuta. The boy grew up full of scars, cuts, burns and bruises.

Rinnosuke often brought young men and women back to their luxurious pension, led them to his bedroom, only to have them emerge at the most ungodly of hours in the morning, disheveled & flushed, hurrying out of their house. Yuuta & Yuuto looked completely identical, born the same time but are completely different people.
At 7, the twins finally knew why their father brought those people home.

But to know is one thing and to understand is another.

Yuuta did not understand. Father said he still loved mother, even though he never talked about her. But if you still love someone, was what father did right or wrong?
Yuuto understood. In fact, Yuuto seemed to always relish in the idea, as if it gave him some sort of pride and joy. He and father had a habit of exchanging smug, proud smiles when father came home with someone new glued to his hip. Yuuto sometimes told him, loud, proud and excited, that: "Yuuta-chan, Father brought home someone again tonight!" and he'd proceed to describe the person, much to Yuuta's disapproval.
Yuuta had woken up once late at night & found his brother, one ear pressed against their father's bedroom door. Yuuto had been touching himself, eyes glazed over, red face scrunched up in pleasure. Yuuta did not know what to think of it.

The next day, Yuuta asked his father, "Father, if you still love mother, why would you do those things with those people? I don't like it when you bring them home." Father looked at him with something akin to mocking, anger and superiority. He had grabbed Yuuta by the collar and hit him till the boy was barely concious and spat, "Shut the up, useless little brat! A thing like you has no right to go against me." Yuuto saw the whole thing. He mocked Yuuta with laughter.

Yuuta was used to the physical pain, those words, his brother's mockery and that belittling look his father gave him. In fact, he'd started thinking of himself the way his father labelled him. Believed he'd deserved to be hit, believed his father was right. Sure, sometimes he did not understand this or that. But he knew, that father was always right. Yuuta was a useless, pathetic brat and he really shouldn't have questioned his father but he did.
It had been drilled into him since birth. Twisted as it is, to him, it was not an inferiority complex, it was a fact. He accepted it. And the shame he felt for questioning his father burdened him for months to come.

The twins both went to the same schools. Yuuto hated school; Yuuta loved it. Learning was a joy to him, a chore to his twin. In school, Yuuta didn't socialize much. In fact, Yuuto was the class idol. He'd learnt how to work a crowd and act in a well-liked way from the best after all, their father. Everyone liked him. Or if they didn't, they acted like it because by then, Yuuto was at the top of what they'd call a social ranking of sorts. The unpopular kids were under his feet and well, if you wanted to be popular, you just had to get Yuuto to warm up to you. He was seemingly perfect, except that his only flaw was that he was first from the back in academics and all his activities.
Yuuta was the exact opposite. He'd always been locked up at home while Yuuto got to go out. He was told by his father to not, "disgrace their family name by making friends" and no one would look at the nerd who topped everything when they could stare at his so much more popular brother anyway.

Their father told him to do Yuuto's work when Yuuta started topping classes. All it took was, "You're a smart brat. But I want you to be smarter and make our family's reputation good. Help your brother. You're useless and pathetic. Always remember that you don't deserve anything good. Everything you do must benefit everyone else but yourself. If not, you're truly worthless and don't need to exist. If you help Yuuto, this will benefit everyone else, not just us."

Yuuta wanted to be useful; this was his chance. To please his father and brother, & "benefit everyone else". The day he was given a chance to redeem himself was the day , "Everything you do must benefit everyone but yourself." was engraved into him, becoming his own twisted motto. He obsessed over it, took action upon it, lived it & breathed it. Yuuta was so obsessed with it, it had become a monomania.

It wasn't just homework. Yuuta sat for Yuuto's tests under Yuuto's name. Yuuta took part in Yuuto's club activies. Yuuta did their physical education classes for Yuuto. The only thing Yuuta did not do was socialize with Yuuto's friends. Well, at least not when he had to.

Even if he had to, Yuuta had no problem being well liked. Despite his twisted mindset and image of himself, he was witty and snarky by nature. Bright and funny. Playful but gentle. A jokester that took care of others. They were always first, there was none of himself. He may have been snarky and sarcastic but the unwavering belief of benefitting everyone had screwed him up in a certain twisted, harmful way.

Yuuta was his brother. There was no Yuuta. There was only Yuuto, only Yuuto existed.

Up til now he lives with that mindset. That is, until his life is thrown off track by the Battle Royale program. Yuuto is killed in less than two days since its start.

Yuuta never did know how Yuuto died.
No one said anything.

For all anyone could've known, it had been some conspiracy by those sick of Yuuto to kill him. Or maybe it was some freak accident. Or maybe it was one person.

There were so many unconfirmed possibilities. Yuuta had heard the rumors and seen the body. He did not react. He did not know how to.

Yuuta was Yuuto and Yuuta did not exist, he thought to himself, but if Yuuto is gone, what is left? Is he Yuuta or is he his brother?
Was he supposed to grieve? He thought he should, he hated himself for not grieving. But no tears came out, he felt nothing.

Only a strange lightness that scared him & churned his stomach. One that made him heave and vomit. He did not sleep for nights. He felt light but lost. One who knew better would call it the feeling of a weight lifting off your shoulders; a sense of freedom.

There is one other thing he does not know. The fact that his elder sister is on this same island, at the same time. She is aware of his presence. She knows things about him. He knows nothing about her.

And her name is Izuki Rin.

This is Renzou Yuuta, and this is his story.

others
+ The only time he's good at fighting and surviving is if he's following someone's orders. Being led fuels him and makes him a very scary & capable fighter. His weakness? Under no one's lead, his skills don't appear & he's lost sheep.
+ In case some people do not know, Renzou is the family name/last name and Yuuta is his first name. But Yuuta prefers if you call him whatever that pleases you.
+ Trying to discourage him from living his mindset is useless. It's not going to be that easy to change him, or maybe he'll never change. You either make use of him, give up on him, accept him or... Well, have fun dealing with his mindset.
+ Yuuta is extremely loyal. If he's following the lead of someone, the only time he'll betray that person is if someone else manipulates him into it using his mindset. But not everyone knows that's how he thinks unless they find out. So before that, you can't really manipulate him.
