BACKGROUND: To explain how a one Mark Tuan, or Tuan Yien, came into this world, we need to take a look back in the 1700s for his mother.

Sirena of Guam, the title of a folk tale that dates back as early as 1565; but, as some know, this tale isn't to fantastical as much as it is real. Her story begins when she was a young child. Sirena was born in the spanish-ruled country of Guam and she loved the ocean with all her heart. She spent every moment she could swimming and playing in the local rivers and ocean; so much so she started to neglect the errands her mother gave her. One month, when her grandmother was visiting, Sirena forgot about the task her mother had given and went straight to the ocean to play. All day and long into the night. Her mother was quick to realise what had happened and in a fit of rage, she shouted at her daughter 'if you love to swim so much, become a fish!' and suddenly, Sirena felt a change take over. Her grandmother, Yiens great grandmother, realised what was happening and interrupted by saying she must remain half human and thus, Sirena the mermaid was created.

Sirena left never to return and it wasn't until 300 years later that she gave birth to her one and only child(thus far). 

Yien was born to a taiwanese father and his mermaid mother but her genes were clearly superior as he was born with a gorgeously vibrant tail. He was lucky enough that his fathers(and mothers previous) human genes that he could split his tail and walk on land; if only for short periods of time.

Yien stayed with his mother as much as he could, occasionally staying with his father. When Sirena heard about Monster High, a high school for boys just like Yien, she immediatly told him to enroll as she knew she wouldn't be able to teach him everything he would need to know later in life.

And now, at the age of eighteen, Yien is a student at Monster High and with the special help of some special students/teachers, he's living a very happy life. He still tries his hardest to visit his mother in her home whenever he can but he can't say that enrolling hasn't been the best decision of his life.

PERSONALITY: Mark has a very friendly and laid-back personality. Mark is sometimes described as an air head because he has a bad habit of daydreaming all the time. Most of the time, he's very calm and level-headed, but he is prone to strong emotions, especially when it comes to romance and friendship. He is almost never outright mean, but is extremely opinionated; he will keep fighting for whatever it is he believes in and can very fiery about it, he gloats when he's right but if he's proven wrong he'll accept it but hold a grudge against whoever contradicted him but he is forgiving and won't stay mad for long, as it's just not his nature. He also hates being told what he can and can't do; he'll purposely put himself into dangerous situation just to prove to whoever that he can do it. Mark is also an environmentalist; trash and pollution in the ocean anger him immensely.
