@hange zoë. The impact of the boiling water against her skin would heal fine with the assistance of her medical team, but she'd have to live without her eye for the rest of her life. Levi scoffed at how it reminded him of who she'd been in the before time and how cruel it was that she couldn't even escape such a fate this one. Niccolo and Sasha hadn't said much of anything since he'd arrived and though her associate, Moblit, remained close, he hadn't said too much either. They were all acting as if they'd seen a ghost because honestly, that's who she was. Hange had already done this in front of them. She risked her life, she fought for humanity, and in the end... Levi pondered over the end, but couldn't remember it. Much of his memories were scattered and made very little sense, but he did remember how she fought for him to save Erwin, even if in the end he still made the decision to let him go.

All this ty moping was making him insane. The petite male stood from his spot and made his way closer to the bed, leaning in to adjust the blanket to better cover her shoulders. She was covered in bandages still, so he couldn't exactly see the extent of the damage, but he recalled how she'd helped him and bandaged him up in such a way sometime long ago, causing his heart to ache in his chest. Hange would be waking soon "Damn idiot." He mumbled, moving a few strands of hair away from her forehead with a sigh. It was probably the most emotion he'd shown in quite some time, to which Sasha watched in awe. "I thought I told you not to mess it up."

He hadn't told her what he knew because it wouldn't have made sense to her. People of this reality had never heard of titans or Eldia and she likely hadn't either. Though, she was still very much the same person as she was then. Moblit mumbled something about going to check on a Sawney and Bean and took ahold of his jacket, Niccolo and Sasha deciding to go and get food for the four of them.

@levi ackerman. Hange dumped the chocolate pieces into the mixing bowl that was set on top of the saucepan and the electric stove. The water was taking rather long to simmer, she noted. Her decision to turn the heat up to the maximum was partially supported by the voices behind her. She'd just turn the heat down the second the water started to boil. Niccolo had specifically stressed that no drop of water should come into contact with the bottom of the mixing bowl; however, Hange was nothing if not experimental. "You place that much importance on my chocolate dip?" She cooed to Levi, body angled to face the onlookers. Niccolo had a frown on his face. "Since when were you dubbed as Humanity's Best Baker?" She paused; the phrase evoking a weird feeling within her. Water bubbles floated to the surface. The sound of water bubbling reached the three pair of ears. Niccolo's eyebrows pinched further. Hange stabbed her rubber spatula into the chocolate puddle, trying to recall from where had she heard that phrase, its origins eluding her.

It was Niccolo's frantic motion that broke her thoughts, him pulling her arm out of the heavily bubbling chocolate dip. "Oh," she mouthed, reaching for the stove knob only to find it switched off by a glaring Levi. "I can fix this!" She yelled to nobody in particular. She snatched the mixing bowl from its position on top of the saucepan — "HOT! HOT! HOT!" — when a speck of bubble burst and striked her right in her left eye. "WATER!" Hange closed her eye instinctively and dropped the mixing bowl in shock, flinging her arms wildly that hit the saucepan's handle, causing it to flip over and splash the contents onto Hange's right side.

It /burnt/. Amidst the flurry of activity, Hange dropped. Shrieks and yells were invading her head The flames — flames? — her clothes, right arm, right shoulder, seeping into her skin. The pain was immense; Hange's face contorted. An airplane with a mended patch. A circle of comrades and once-enemies. Sasha and Niccolo. Massive humanoids. Giants? Commander Hange. Her skin turned a violent patch of red. Commander /Erwin/. Her mind broke further, glass pieces shattering even more. Levi; broken Levi. She couldn't feel anymore. She flew; she burnt; she crashed. Titans.

Hange blacked out.

@levi ackerman. Once Hange had added water into the saucepan, she returned to the electric range with both saucepan and mixing bowl. The kitchen was apt for the small bakery. The electric range was installed for the occasional cases wherein a stovetop was needed, Niccolo had explained. This was one of such cases. The commercial ovens stood aside, unused for the private lesson.

Niccolo had mentioned that normally the chocolate dip would be made while the cookies were being baked, a just-in-time process. For the purposes of this baking lesson, however, they would reheat the chocolate dip. Under Niccolo's brief guidance, she took ahold of the serrated knife and went to town on the chocolate bar, slicing her way into the bar. She was adept with the knife, although not on the level of Levi. There was somehow déjà vu — looking at the flecks of chocolate that had pooled — accompanied by a mixture of derange and unease, as if the knife were a weapon instead of a tool in her hand. Hange's grip on the knife tightened. She paused in her act, racking her brain, trying yet failing to reach the memory that was just out of her grasp. She shook her head. She had wielded knives before and not for a bad purpose.

The result of her cuts was somewhat even pieces of chocolate that would provide a more uniform melting time. She had taken a longer time than expected; a glance to Levi had showed that he was almost done with mixing the wet ingredients. It seemed he caught on fast, what with Niccolo's praises, which made Hange swell up with pride. It was her turn to one-up Levi.

@hange zoë. There it was again, she'd pronounced his name wrong for the second time. Why the hell did she look so familiar? Sasha was her name,right..? The tall blonde fellow, Niccolo, gave him the faintest feeling of distrust. That was nothing strange, however, almost everything gave him the faintest feeling of distrust. Levi clicked his tongue, waiting for Niccolo to go over the instructions. What really interested him was how baking could compliment his tea. Though, as soon as the thought crossed his mind, the blonde began to discuss what tea the cookies paired with. Which made him mouth water with interest. Perhaps the clumsy oaf had been right. Baking would only enhance the tea, especially if he paid close attention to what they paired with best. He could make them into meals that people could buy. Levi still didn't possess the flexibility to let people order all willy nilly. So of course, if anyone deviated from the predetermined menu, there would be conflict. Possibly even bloodshed over the disrespect given to the tea.

Mixing was simple. He put the sugar, butter, and lemon zest in a bowl, pressed a button and boom. Then he added eggs, lemon juice, and vanilla. Niccolo praised him for doing such a good job on the mixing, though it seemed trivial. Mostly because Levi still felt a disliking of him, but also because the machine was doing all the work. Perhaps that was why his scones always turned out crumbly and hard to shape. Once the cookies had been properly mixed and put into the fridge to cool, the both of their attention went to Hange. "Let's see how the chocolate is getting along." Niccolo had a lot better attitude than he did. The much shorter male was still irritated that she'd bumped into him. Somethings never change, he thought. "Don't mess it up, either." His arms found purchase across his chest as he watched her with his flat expression. "My cookies will be a show if you do." He quietly added the second part. "which would truly be the travesty of humanity." Niccolo looked at him as if he'd found the wording strange, as if he were expecting a look or a hint of something, but Levi didn't give it to him. Mostly because even if he were hinting at the past, he didn't remember Niccolo.

@levi ackerman. She tsked at his fanciful display of knife-handling skills. "Show-off," she teased, though she did admire the display, partially wondering from where did he magically procure the item. "You speak as though you don't enjoy my presence as well." She raised a knowing brow, putting on the apron. In truth, she was mostly there to facilitate. Hange knew that Levi wasn't the easiest to get along with, and she didn't want the couple to be put in an awkward situation. Despite Hange's warning, Sasha had surprisingly been eager to meet him, citing that she had experience dealing with "moody little captains", whatever that meant. It just so happened that Levi didn't mind to attend the baking class.

"Alright! Niccolo will head the lesson. I'll be outside if you need me, Hange and Leh-vee." Sasha announced, a twinkle in her eyes when she addressed Levi, and pressed a quick kiss to her husband's cheek before leaving with another plate of baked goods. Hange shouted an affirmation and turned to Niccolo, demeanour shifting into that of determination. She had seen the disbelief in Levi's eyes challenging her baking skills. To her, baking was a science; ergo, she would have a natural flair for it. She let out a gleeful snort upon imagining his face when he was proved wrong, drawing the attention of the other two occupants in the kitchen. "Nothing. Let's start!"

Niccolo briefly went over the ingredients needed for lemon cookies and the process. He explained with what kinds of tea the cookies could pair, and that for this session, they would make a chocolate dipping sauce, a suggestion kindly provided by his dear wife. Hange readily volunteered to make the chocolate dipping sauce. While Niccolo showed Levi how to mix the wet ingredients, Hange preheated the oven as instructed. She then rushed to obtain a saucepan and mixing bowl, their formation of a double boiler, almost bumping into Levi in the process. "Whoops!" She chuckled non-apologetically.

@hange zoë. He didn’t bother to correct the pronunciation of his name, in the grand scheme of things it wasn’t truly important. With that being said, it did add to the overall annoyance building deep down in the pit of his stomach. What did she know about baking anyway? And how could she ensure that he was baking properly as clumsy as she was? This was none other than an excuse to spend time with him, which made him cringe harder than the feeling of moisture seeping through his shirt.

Once situated in the kitchen, the short king eyed the couple unenthusiastically as he did with all couples and human beings alike. In truth, Levi did feel a bit sorry for allowing his time with Erwin to go over. He was quite punctual, though that wouldn’t surprise anyone given his OCD tendencies. His gaze shifted to the corner of his eyes to watch her, both arms crossed moodily over his chest. It wasn’t until he’d been handed an apron that he begrudgingly adjusted his position. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you liked spending time around me, Hange.” He got a hold of a knife and was very skillfully twirling it between his fingertips, leaving the couple to uneasily wonder where he’d gotten ahold of the item given their current itinerary for baking cookies. He set it down and gave Hange a look. If there was one thing he couldn’t stand, it was teamwork. Unfortunately, he wasn’t horrible at it. His grey eyes focused now on the teachers before them. The quicker they got this over with, the better. “We’re ready to begin, I guess.”

The bakery wasn’t up to his standard in cleanliness at all, btw

@levi ackerman. Hange had just came out of the washroom when she spotted a familiar man in the kitchen, back facing her. She strode towards him and stopped directly behind him, encapsulating him within her shadow. Her features stretched into a manic grin as he turned to face her. "Shorty. Surprise! I'm here to ensure you do a good job baking." The light rays refracted off her glasses. She placed her still wet palms on his shoulder, causing him to cringe. However, she had tight grips and didn't let him go, instead pushing him by the shoulders further into the kitchen.

"And this," she gestured to the whole of Levi to the couple. "Is who i mentioned is interested to improve his baking skills. His majesty certainly took his time getting to us peasants." Sasha's eyes widened as she hopped off the counter. "It's no problem! Leh-vee, right? We've expected to take the whole based on what Hange told us." Her eyes darted to Hange and back, as if she'd mentioned something she wasn't supposed to. Hange cut in with a sharp laugh. "I didn't say much. Anyway! Let's start baking! Niccolo, if you may." Receiving the aprons from Niccolo's outstretched arm, she turned to Levi to hand him one. "Ready, baking partner?" She nudged him with her elbow.

@hange zoë. If it was some kind of class, what did it matter if he were just a few minutes late? Erwin had asked him for his help a little earlier, though really the big guy just wanted to hang out. Perhaps it was normal for people to not say things directly, either way, the shorter male understood that him asking for help was just an excuse to get them in the same building. It would have been strange to hear him say he'd been missing him... or something far worse that established they were bestfriends til the end. Levi cringed at the thought. No, Erwin asking for help was good enough. Anyway, this help had taken up more time than he'd originally anticipated.

Upon arrival, he pushed open the door to the bakery, conveniently located far, far away from his home. Nickle guy had reached out to him some time after Levi's conversation with Hange in the tea shop, telling him a date and time for lessons. However, no sooner than the moment he'd entered did he realize that there was no one else in the bakery... This of course threw him off immediately. His dark eyes shifted until they fell upon a brunette and nickle boy, one of which had their mouth stuffed to the brim with some kind of pastry. They were both familiar to say the least.

His thoughts were interrupted as he felt a shadow appear above him, towering over him like a cyclops. "What the hell-?" It gave him a familiar feeling in the pit of his stomach. He knew this shadow... why did he..? Slowly he turned around to see Hange towering over him, looking as though she was about to spill over with excitement.

No way... she'd punked him? The look on his face was not nearly as amused. His arms crossed over his chest as he leaned into one hip with a bit of an attitude. "Can someone tell me what this ty four eyes is doing here?" He could already feel the vein in his forehead constricting.

@levi ackerman. Hange waited impatiently in the closed bakery. "The guest of honour is taking his own sweet time," she lamented. "Probably got pulled over by the cops for being behind the wheel." She put out her palm, face-down, referencing said special guest's height to be that of a child's, drawing synchronous 'o's from the couple. She had requested a favour from her friend to have her husband host a private lesson. Although he preferred cooking, Niccolo's baking skills weren't any inferior. Sasha had agreed immediately; the young adult had deeply missed her former babysitter whom she adored. Getting to eat food, especially Niccolo's, was only the cherry on top. The aforementioned female currently stuffed her face with fruitbread, her husband occasionally feeding her bites. Young love, Hange mused.

Her hair tied in a messy ponytail, Hange played with the stand mixer's settings while her thoughts drifted to a certain short male. She wondered what expression he would have on his face when he realised that /yes/, he was at the right place; /no/, it was not a public lesson; and /yes/, Hange was his baking partner. Not that baking lemon cookies needed baking partners, though Levi better be grateful she had specially freed her calendar for this. She had initially booked the whole day for spending time with Sawney and Bean; her poor rodents must have been missing her with her high workload lately.
