@woonggi blake scanned the piece of paper, the picture in the newspaper did not do the building any justice. there was something special about it, he knew it. whether it will be the sight of their undeniable success, or terrible downfall was a matter of perspective. blake wanted to be optimistic about it, he needed to make this movie work. for himself, and for the reputation they will both get if this project will be a success. he looked at his roommate, and wondered if he should reveal his bargaining tactics. truth be told, it was really difficult to get that set. it had to work – there was no turning back now. “do not worry about it. the only problem is, we only have one month. so we better make it count,” he said and took his camera bag out of his closet.
he started packing without saying anything, his mind was filled with ideas and thoughts. he completely forgot that their actors need to see the set as well. but of course, the directors should be the first on set – preparing everything, cleaning, polishing. “I hope you know how to clean up a place,” he joked, he knew his roommate was rather neat. even so, the amount of debris they will have to make work for their movie was quite unthinkable. from the outside, the building looked good enough, but there was no telling how much damage there was inside. “also, I hope your medical insurance is not expired. the owner told me the building is rather unstable, so we might experience what he explained to be ‘a wall or two falling off’. honestly, it cannot be that bad if we look out for damaged spots, right?” he was not worried, perhaps he should have been. “we have to check it today, and see how much we have to clean up,” blake said and shut his equipment bag.
it did not hurt to take it along, even if he will not take it inside right away. a camera on hand was something every film student should have – never miss an opportunity, or so they say. he took his car keys out of his university bag, and put them in his jacket. “let us get going, before it gets dark. I highly doubt they have electricity in that place. given they were so eager to demolish it,” he took his roommate’s jacket off the hanger and tossed it at him. “and heat is probably out of the question,” he just hoped it was not too cold. or else they would have to film dressed in winter coats – and coats are not really ‘horror’ material.
@baekhyun Woonggi is a film student. He was definitely into the paranormal and the terrifying. Even though every little thing absolutely terrifies him. But it was still fun. Did he believe in it? Yeah. Ghosts, monsters. He figured they could be out there somewhere or in plain sight. He's definitely one of the easiest people to scare. It doesn't take much to get him to jump or scream.
He knows there are sceptics and people who judge those who do believe in the paranormal. But he didn't care about that. His roommate being one of the sceptics. Woonggi was scared but also determined to prove him wrong. And was hoping that this upcoming assignment was going to help him with that. Maybe that will help. Hopefully they were going to find a good, abandoned place for filming.
They had been scouring for a few days to find the perfect set for filming. And they had stumbled across an actual abandoned movie set and decided to contact someone to find out if they could use it safely for their mini movie. But they found out it was gonna be destroyed and he was waiting for confirmation on whether they can use it or not.
Woonggi glanced at his roommate, Blake, and clapped. "Sweet! I was hoping we'd get it! When are we going to go out there and check it out?" He questioned. He'd been looking forward to this for sure. Blake is definitely one of the better students in his class. And he was so glad that the other was his roommate. "That's awesome. How did you get them to agree to letting us use it?" He knew Blake had his ways but he was curious as to what that would be this time.
@woonggi the dream of any film student is to one day successfully produce something that will make their name known in the industry. be it a rom-com, a documentary, or something more ambitious like a thriller, or an action movie. for blake, that was horror. he has been fascinated by the subject ever since he was a child, always analysing methods and plot devices in classic horror films. he found the simplicity of horror quite intriguing – and most old movies were just cheesy, and as fake as they could get, in his opinion anyways. he never believed in the existence of any supernatural being, not really. he found all horror movies great because they showed monsters that did not really exist, in a funnily unrealistic way. not to say, the chance to parody great movies like the original dracula, or the exorcist, excited him. he was a sceptic, but that did not stop him from appreciating the fine art of exaggeration.
maybe his dark humour helped, he liked poking fun at unusual things. maybe it was how he comforted himself in front of danger, maybe there was a more trivial reasoning behind it. whatever it was, he did not let go of the idea of making the funniest, yet perhaps scarily realistic horror movie to ever exist. he was fortunate enough to have a close friend and roommate who was just as into the genre as he was. but maybe his friend had other reasons – given that the younger shivered at the appearance of his own shadow. blake found that quite amusing, and he did in the past. but there was something else about the boy that made him consider working with him for his ‘big project’. the boy was impossibly gullible, he would tell stories about ghosts with the passion of someone who has actually witnessed all horrors of the world. it was quite ironic, given his jumpy nature.
fate has made it so that they were perfectly imperfect for directing a horror movie. a sceptic, and a believer. what could go wrong? well, first, the conflicting beliefs might give them a headache. while blake pulls to make the movie as stupid as possible, to comment on all the less realistic parts of horror movies, the younger wishes to go a more supernatural way. blake ignores him at times, he is far too stubborn to go with the easy option. whether the younger fell for his ‘interested’ act was a question of perspective. now that they outlined most elements they wished to integrate, it was time to find a setting. one would believe that would be the easiest part, but it was more difficult than any of the would like to admit. film students had the ability to hide the difficult part of their projects.
with the amount of closed ‘haunted’ buildings in the area, they should have been able to get a slot right away. well, apparently they were closed for a reason – most of them were unsafe, and potentially dangerous, with trap doors and hidden bubbling swamps under their foundation. cleaning faeces was not really on blake’s to do list. at last, he hit the jackpot. he read in the local papers about this one building once used as a setting for some underground, unpopular movie. it was perfectly safe and abandoned, however, they were planning on taking it down soon to build a living complex. after a few phone calls, and long nights of contemplation, blake managed to convince them to postpone the demolition.
with a newfound smile on his lips, he threw the paper on the table before his roommate. “we got it,” he said, uncharacteristically cheerful. “we should explore it first, see where we can install our equipment and such. did you manage to contact our actors?” by that he meant a group of theatre students who were more than eager to participate in a movie project. they often worked together with the film students, it was a collaboration the university agreed on and supported.
gonna take my leave. thanks for having me, but everything is just too much for me now.
you guys will obvi see me around because I'm the obnoxious younger sibling you all never asked for
