Mystique (Korean신비감) is a South Korean K-pop girl group formed and debuted in 2019 with Noir Entertainment. The members of the group are Imani Amatayakul (Maia), Boonsri Disatha (Poppy), Lau Baihu (Hui), Kim Jihyuna (Dawn), Jung Mirae (Mia), and Riley Yoo (Orea). The group is known for its edgy dance-pop style and empowering "girl crush" concept that has attracted a large female fanbase.

The group officially debuted on April 4th, 2019 with the Korean single, "Fearless" and released their first studio album The Glamour on October 20th, 2020 which features the Korean main single, "Queendom".

Mystique has won a number of awards including Rookie of the Year (Mnet Asian Music Awards 2019), Album of the Year for The Glamour (Mnet Asian Music Awards 2020), Song of the Year for "Wannabe" (Mnet Asian Music Awards 2021).

History

Pre-debut (2017–2019)

Many members of the group were trainees under Noir Entertainment for several years prior to debut. Some of the members were speculated to have trained closely and receive advice from some members of their labelmate group Revolt.

In 2017, the girls appeared as contestants on the survival show Rising Star and reached the finale mission episode in which they each won in top rankings overall as well as audience votes. Shortly thereafter, Noir Entertainment announced the group's formation as an experimental trainee group under the temporary name Mystery Girls (신비소녀들) and alternatively nicknamed Sinbi (신비).

On August 7th, 2018 they released a pre-debut Korean single "First" on YouTube and for streaming platforms. Despite lack of promotions for the song, the music video reached 3.1 million views. The group continued to post videos on Noir Entertainment's official YouTube channel as well as hosting livestreams on Twitch where they performed live practices, did Q&A's, and dropped spoilers for their official debut as a proper girl group planned for 2019 that would later be announced in social media posts.

Debut and First Album (2019–2020)

Mystique officially debuted with the Korean single, "Fearless" on April 9th, 2019 and changed the group name from the former moniker Mystery Girls to the current Mystique after taking votes from fans online who preferred the refreshing name change. The music video reached 32.3 million views on YouTube within its first week. It charted #15 in KOR Gaon chart with raving positive reviews from East Asian critics. The group went on to win 3 stages in the following months of promotion for the single. Later that year they won an award for Rookie of the Year (Mnet Asian Music Awards 2019).

Although the group had garnered a massive fanbase in a short time period, especially consisting of female fans who connected to the group's empowering "girl crush" concept, Mystique took a brief hiatus throughout 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the globe. In the meantime they began recording in secret and kept fans appeased with regular social media posts.

On October 20th, 2020 they finally released their first studio album The Glamour and sold over 35,000 copies within its first week, ranking #8 on the KOR Gaon chart. The main single featured on the album, "Queendom", reached 109.3 million views on the YouTube music video and became a global hit song after going viral on TikTok as it ranked #1 on the KOR Gaon chart for several weeks. The Glamour later went on to win Album of the Year (Mnet Asian Music Awards 2020).

First EP and World Tour (2021–Present)

Their first EP Inner Beauty was released on June 14th, 2021 with the main Korean single, "Wannabe" which later went on to win Song of the Year (Mnet Asian Music Awards 2021). The music video reached 451.2 million views on YouTube as the group skyrocketed further with international fame. Inner Beauty sold over 62,400 copies within its first week, ranking #3 on the KOR Gaon chart. Their single remained on Top 50 charts for several weeks in South Korea as fans continued to support their comeback. The co-ed band DOX also featured instrumentals on Mystique's Inner Beauty EP track, "O.O".

Noir Entertainment announced Mystique's first world tour titled Mystery Masquerade through social media posts in late 2021 with multiple shows across the globe in countries such as South Korea, Japan, China, Thailand, The United States, Canada, Britain, France, and Mexico. The tour started with 2 shows in Seoul, South Korea and lasted for several months until their finale show in Tokyo, Japan on December 19th, 2021.

Rumors have speculated that Mystique is planning another comeback in Summer or Autumn 2022, yet these rumors have not yet been confirmed or denied by the group.

Subunits

On October 20th, 2020 a sub-unit consisting of Member and Member debuted with the single, "Monster" featured on Mystique's first studio album The Glamour. The sub-unit promoted with stages of their single independently of the general promotion schedules for Mystique during the months following their album release and won 2 stages.
