DOX (Korean: 독스) is an American and South Korean co-ed band formed in 2015 and officially debuted in 2020 after signing with Sunrise Entertainment. The members of the group are Klaus von Nacht, Reece Nishiya (Reap.r), Moon Eunhwi (Tomo), and Daniel Choi. The band is known for its edgy rock and metal sound that has attracted fans in both the Western and East Asian entertainment industries.

The band officially debuted on October 30th, 2020 with the English single, "Fields of Bone" and made a Korean debut on November 18th, 2021 with their first English-Korean studio album Devil's Night which features the Korean single "Bomb" and English single "Heart of Fire".

Despite having an official main vocalist, the position has often been shared and passed on to other members in the group in order to highlight their individual vocal talents and sound.

DOX has won two awards including Breakthrough Band (Alternative Press Music Awards 2020) and Best International Band (Alternative Press Music Awards 2021).

History

Pre-debut (2015–2020)

Before signing with Sunrise Entertainment, the band was originally formed in 2015 by lead guitarist and vocalist Klaus von Nacht in Hamburg, Germany. After struggling to keep a consistent lineup of musicians who would suit the band's style, Klaus eventually relocated to Los Angeles, California where he would go on to find new members in the local Hollywood rock scene. For some years the band performed primarily in clubs and bars featuring covers as well as their own original songs, most notably their self-released English single, "Youth & Whiskey" in June 2018.

They were noticed by a Sunrise Entertainment recruiting staff one evening in 2019 while playing their first major gig at the famous Troubadour club in West Hollywood. Once negotiating contract terms, DOX signed with Sunrise Records, a subsidiary of Sunrise Entertainment, in January 2020. Shortly thereafter the band was announced through social media posts online and began preparations for a debut within the Western US-based market.

Debut (2020–2021)

DOX officially debuted with the English single "Fields of Bone" on October 30th, 2020 that coincided with a special Devil's Night performance at The Viper Room club that same evening. The music video was released the next day on Halloween and reached 2.3 million views on YouTube within its first week. It charted at #45 in US Top 100 and #12 in US Rock with relatively positive reviews from Western critics.

Although lead guitarist Klaus von Nacht provided the main vocals for the single and had acted as main vocalist since the beginning of the group's career, the introduction of a new main vocalist and other members with excellent vocals ushered in a great interest for DOX to explore other rock genres beyond the glam metal sound they garnered within their time in the United States. Klaus agreed to take a step back from his former frontman position and encouraged fellow members to claim more limelight with their voices and personal sound.

For the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, there were minimal new releases and a lack of physical performances as they relied heavily on their social media presence to maintain relevancy. Between production of their first studio album planned to be released later on in 2021, the group kept fans satiated by releasing several cover songs on YouTube such as "Rebel Yell", "Misery Business", and "How You Like That" as well as frequent livestream performances and Q&A's on Twitch.

First Album and Korean Debut (2021–Present)

DOX featured instrumentals on Mystique's Inner Beauty EP track, "O.O" that released on June 14th, 2021.

Their first studio album Devil's Night was released on November 18th, 2021 and sold over 10,000 copies within its first week, ranking at #62 on the US Top 200 chart and #19 on the KOR Gaon chart. All band members particpated in the production of lyrics, compositions, and arrangements of songs featured on the album. The album featured two leading singles; the Korean single "Bomb" and English single "Heart of Fire".

Devil's Night officially debuted DOX within the South Korean industry as the album split their tracklist between English and Korean songs. As a result, the album received much more positive reviews by Korean critics whereas there were mixed reviews and criticisms from Western critics who preferred the "old" sound or were perplexed by the combination of languages within the same album. Despite criticisms in the United States, DOX enjoyed a surge in newfound Korean fans. The band quickly shifted focus to further expanding into the East Asian market and temporarily relocated to Seoul, South Korea in December 2021 for promotions of the album and have remained there still in present day.

Rumors online amongst fans has spread that DOX are preparing for yet another comeback in 2022, but these rumors have not yet been confirmed or denied by the group.
