In the year 2021, a privately owned medical laboratory, named Gong-Eun (공은) ltd., had come close to developing a cure for various types of cancer. Their tests, both ethical and not, had seemed promising, and so the final strain of the drug was created and dubbed C-21/F, and put into the final stages of testing - live human trials. At the most critical time, rebels that had gathered intel on the activities of the company took their chance to infiltrate the premises and plant a series of fires within the facility. Within moments the laboratories were engulfed in flames, and the test subjects lost along with it. Though what no-one had expected was that C-21/F didn't only cure cancer. It 'cured' death, reanimating the bodies, but not the minds of those with the drug in their system, and caused an insatiable lust for flesh.
During the fire, the bodies that were destroyed first served as the ideal environment for the drug to mutate into a highly contagious virus that spread through the bite of the contaminated, while the vials that held samples of the cure were exposed to temperatures that caused changes on a molecular level that caused the cure to become airborne. Anyone that died after exposure whether through a bite or otherwise, would be subject to the changes seen in the initial test subjects.
