It took a few months but a completely revamped version of Roleplay Republic is now in beta phase. A brief list of the changes are listed below:
- Completely redesigned to be mobile-friendly
- Fixed bad login sessions (if you were having login problems before, the new version fixes it)
- Fixed other programming bugs including the tag search form and miscellaneous items
- Completely overhauled platform with more robust security and protection for your accounts
- Faster load times
- Fixed broken links and pages
The new design focuses more on roleplaying so the rooms will have the actual roleplay posts closer to the top. The new platform also opens the way to things impossible to do in the old design like asynchronous loading of room posts so roleplay rooms work more like Twitter in that you won't have to reload to see new messages in a room. Alerts and history similar to the way Asianfanfics handles event history are now also possible in the future.
The new platform is tested but I need five beta testers to help hammer out any lingering bugs. If you're interested in being a beta tester, ideally, you have been a member of RPR for over a year and are a heavy user of most of the current features. We'll also frequently be in touch over the next few days while the beta test is ongoing. Right now, I'm only looking for broken or missing stuff in the new version that the old version didn't have problems with. I prefer bug reports to be in this format:
What did you try to do: [e.g. tried to add a character]
What actually happened: [e.g. ripped the fabric of spacetime]
What was supposed to happen: [e.g. character is added to my roleplay]
If you were one of the earliest RPR beta testers that actually helped me get Roleplay Republic off the ground back in 2012 and you want to participate, just let me know you're interested and I'll give you priority access to the beta site (you guys were good). The best beta testers will get the Beta badge once RPR is released and when we, you know, actually get badges (it's always hard to find a good designer).
So just send me a note if you want to be a beta tester and think you'd be good at it. If you were a former beta tester, let me know and I'll give you access. If I don't know you, just include a note as to why you'd like to be a beta tester and how active you are around the site. I'll update this post when all positions are filled. I will most likely not be able to respond to all messages (I have a full time job outside of this and I do this for free, you know. I'm not Zuckerberg.) but know that I read them all and I take notes of the good suggestions you guys make. Cheers!
Update 5/20/2015: Beta tester roles are now closed.
