Kim Seokjin

25

5' 10"

Joseon era

Seokjin was a underrated clairvoyant in a small local village. Since the day he was born, he tried his best to help those in need using the supernatural gift he was blessed with. He assured Grandma Hae that her granddaughter would live a happy life with her betrothed, talked the butcher out of selling his meats to a fraud and even rushed to save a girl who tried to hung herself because her lover abandoned her. And everytime, they ignored him. Of course, things ended up tragically for them but still no one would heed his words and they were all dubbed as a lunatic's nonsensical spiel. It wasn't entirely their fault though. Whatever Seokjin said did not turn out exactly true whenever he tried to change the future. The butcher's shop was attacked by rogue wolves one night and all his meats disappeared into their stomachs and the girl who changed her mind about hanging was trampled by a mad horse.

Not one to give up, he tried one last time. On one fateful night, he woke up from a terrible nightmare, gasping from the unspeakable horror he witnessed in his sleep. He did not waste a single moment going to the head villager's house. When he failed to get the message into the owner's head, he knocked on every door, begging them to believe him but none took him seriously. Desperate, Seokjin decided to meet their danger himself, stealing a horse from a ranch before riding out of the village to stop the gang of ruthless thieves heading for their homes. He tried to negotiate with them, impressing them with his power to predict that they were going to rob the a wealthy merchant who was transporting a golden figurine of a god worshipped by people of a faraway land and describing in extreme detail what would happen to each one of them if they did that, who dies and who escapes.

He did catch the attention of the chief, but poor Seokjin missed the treacherous gleam in the other's eyes. In exchange for not doing what they usually do to his village, Seokjin was bound into service with the group. With little hesitation, he agreed. If only he could foresee his own fate, which he could not, he wouldn't have. The next few years were, in simple words, hell on earth for Seokjin. He was forced to reveal locations of treasures or stash or just about anything that brings great value and when he couldn't, he was beaten and deprived of food. And later, . What pained Seokjin the most was that the chief broke his promise. He'd come to know from Jaeyong, the youngest and rashest of the gang, that his village was wiped out a few nights ago. Defeated, he begged the younger to set him free and he had gotten the deal, after he was tainted by the other one last time.

Seokjin became the blind since then. It was either karma, a punishment for his attempt to change the future, or because he was too tainted to house this sacred gift. Either way, he could no longer see the world the way he had. He settled in another seaside village, where he was taken in by an old fisherman he cared for dearly.
