Dane had always wanted to be a speech therapist. At the age of 25 he had started his internship and was well on the way to becoming an actual speech therapist by the end of his 1st year of interning. But Dane could've never predicted what happened that one winter day. He had been in Haverhill gardens, seated at the bench, eating a stale sandwhich that was his lunch when he heard a sound, when he looked up he saw a patient of his supervising doctor's jumping into the garden's lake. He had stared for awhile, confused and waiting. It was the gathering crowd and unnerving minutes ticking by that moved him into action, stripping off his white coat & warm scarf, he dived into the cold lake. The murky green waters weren't helpful but he could see the patient under the surface, struggling to breathe yet refusing to rise from the water. He swam to the patient, attempted to stop them from drowning themselves but was met with resistance as the patient struggled violently. Starting to lose his breath & overcome with creeping cold fear, he did his utmost best but with one final shove from the patient, his head cracked hard against a rock & the next thing he knew was darkness. When he awoke, he was told he had been in a coma for 4 years. After one week, it was now established that he could not ever remember a single event that happened after that incident, he was diagnosed with anterograde amnesia after a series of tests. Dane has now lived every day like a new day for 1 year, unable to make new memories. With his condition, his appeal to complete his internship & become an actual speech therapist was rejected. Ever since, he's struggled to live through notes, phone reminders and daily voice recordings as Haverhill's receptionist.
