"what are you fighting for?"
when he was younger, joohyuk never understood that phrase his grandfather would ask him from time to time whenever the latter got caught up with the wrong crowd, or put in detention for his misbehavior. what was he fighting for? to his grandfather, every little thing that was done in life had always served as some purpose. although he didn't know what was the purpose was at the time, he always held respect for the old man since he was really the only parent figure he knew. not being one to talk much about his past, the one thing that kept him going and feeling emotions would be the fights he found himself engaging in. it started from childish wrestling, progressed to swinging back at the bullies making fun of the holes in his shoes and jacket until he was in high school. high school was different. it was more difficult to stop himself from swinging his fist at the ones who always tried to provoke him. what he noticed however was the adrenaline rush he felt every time he got into a battle with someone, it was as if the rush was something he had been thriving and longing for after the passing of his grandfather. there was so much built up anger he carried throughout his childhood and teenage years that the only way he could cope is getting in streets fights for some extra bucks or protecting himself at school when the rich decided to with him.
due to the constant up and down lifestyle he lived, many had assumed that joohyuk was rebellious just to come off as some "hip" prick and do what he want. no one knew that he was deaf in one ear due to a fight when he was younger that led to his eardrum busted, at times socially awkward due to how his mother would shelter him yet ually abuse him. she was in and out of prison, often giving him "pills" to coax him into performing such lewd acts when he was just 13-- and plain broken and confused. so there was never much to fight for or not much to go home to after the passing of his grandfather since his mother was known as the neighborhood druggy and hoe. despite the negatives that came with living a toxic and rebellious lifestyle, he began catching the eye of businessmen who felt like they could profit off him. not only was he taught to lie and cheat others, but at the age of 16 he was known for being bodyguards for shady businessmen who in return, gave him access to money and women.
he faced a lot of hardships but was never vocal on it. people often assume he's either cold, blunt, and reserved based on these things he keeps to him. if he opens to you, it takes a lot of trust for him to do so. never having anyone there to listen to him whenever he was being judged and misled by his own mother; he became mute to not only his feelings, but his heart as well. currently 23 and living his life to the fullest - he fights the drug addiction his mother and his injury got him hooked on since he was a teen, while trying to live up to his reputation.
