Wonyoung has spent her entire life under foster care. The only trace of her parents is a small locket they left with her, and something engraved on the back of it in chinese lettering. She had never experienced what a true “family,” had felt like. wonyoung isn’t really sure if she ever will.
in addition to the lack of parents she had, just to add to the ever growing pre-teen dread she was feeling, wonyoung was also bullied in middle school. having hit her growth spurt before anyone else, wonyoung’s long legs was an easy target for bullying. she was often called “slim” or “tree” or “twigs” by her peers. it didn’t help when she found out the girl she liked had spread a rumor about wonyoung’s parents and her origin. so, right before her first year in high school, wonyoung decided to transfer schools and go to a new foster home.
Wonyoung was absolutely determined to make everything different. High school would be different. There would be new people in the halls, boys that were definitely taller than her, and no one to make fun of her. Wonyoung made the decision to join the cheerleading squad and become as nice as possible. That way, she wouldn’t be bullied or have to worry about the parents that abandoned her. That way, Wonyoung would finally just be a normal kid.

Ever since the bullying she’s experienced in middle school, Wonyoung makes sure that almost everyone in the school likes her. She’s made to be a people pleaser and, by default, she always has a smile plastered on her face. And it’s not to say that the smile on her face is fake. She tries hard to be as genuine as she can, but that’s the thing: often times, before she realizes it, she tries a little too hard.
Though she never really shows it, wonyoung is actually quite insecure. She often tries to seek validation in others, and so tries to put her best foot forward all the time. At the same time, she tries her best to look at the good in people. Maybe someone is having a bad day or something is going on at home, she isn’t too sure, but wonyoung makes sure to understand that there are always two sides to a story.
She hardly ever gets angry. Upset and sad? Of course. But no one has ever truly seen Wonyoung reach a full stage of anger. It’s as if she’s not even capable of doing such.

It was a late night, you were finally finished tutoring Wonyoung, and it was raining. wonyoung, being the responsible young girl she is, forgot her umbrella at home. so, you give her your varsity jacket to keep her protected before her foster brother picks her up. except, once wonyoung wears your jacket to school, a rumor starts to go around that the two of you are dating. and when wonyoung tells you about the rumor, for one reason or another, you want to keep the rumor going.
