With Saturday morning cartoons and Sunday morning church services, he went about his days quietly and hidden among his more rambunctious peers; he attended his classes diligently where he spent his childhood as a wallflower.

 

Things change for him when one of the more popular boys at school begins to take notice of him; suddenly, Jonghyun's being invited to parties and hangouts, always having someone to talk in class and never eating alone at lunch again. And like any normal teenage boy, Jonghyun begins discovering feelings, and not for the opposite .

In a conservative town where rumors like this could ruin a family, he kept the secret close to heart. He was willing to live with the pain and loneliness of just watching his best friend date cheerleaders and choir girls.

 

That is until at another one of those dumb high school parties where everyone gets drunk on cheap liquor and even cheaper beer, his best friend kisses him. It's soft and barely there but it's enough. Then they're sneaking around beneath the school bleachers and hiding in the boys' locker room. And Jonghyun builds a bit more courage in this conservative town where rumors could ruin a family. Two weeks before his high school graduation, he confesses to his parents about his uality; he bares his soul about the love he's received and given only to be met with a slap and yelling. He's chased out of the house and with nowhere else to go, he heads to his best friend's home, only to be told that everything had been a joke, a lie, a curious high school boy who just wanted to see what being with another boy would be like.

 

Heartbroken, Jonghyun decides to run away to the next town over, Jangseung; he had been raised on horror stories and warnings about the place. Rumors about the mysterious aura that seemed to completely encompass the entire town. Still, he was desperate to escape his past and he's willing to pay any price for it.
